Texas is as stupid as Ohio State for firing Matta. The coach they fired - Rick Barnes - was SEC Coach of the Year last year and I believe his team is ranked #1 in the country right now. (Not to mention Barnes took Texas to a Final Four, and Elite 8, two Sweet 16s, and numerous other appearances.)

Getting rid of Barnes was one of the dumber "big school termination" moves. In terms of Shaka Smart I dont know if his style really translates well as other coaches have sort of figured it out. He is 61-59 with a 26-35 conference record after nearly 4 years at Texas. If Texas eventually pulls the plug I dont think it is an unreasonable decision.
I would gladly take Smart as the next head coach at SIU. Texas will regret firing him.

We will have to agree to disagree-as a basketball guy, there were better fits for Shaka Smart than Texas. If he was only looking at income, and I guess resources, it is very attractive and offers things VCU can't. However, he had far greater success at VCU and VCU might have eventually put up the Shaka Smart statue.
Weber was never going to be as beloved or respected at ILL as he was/is at SIU. And I believe he could have kept SIU going or even taken it to a Butler type level had he stayed. He also hasn't been as popular at KState as he was at SIU.
Thoughts on Kent Williams? He has been an assistant as well for a while; was at Tennessee prior to Rick Barnes strolling in and starting over with his own staff.
