Then he should be able to fill out our roster quickly. He’s going to need players.
I wouldn't worry too much about this. His first priority will be to keep the recruits committed (assuming he wants them). With his connections, work ethic, and demeanor he will be a WAY better recruiter than Hinson. I'm not trying to disparage any of our current players, but just think about the circumstances under which most of them arrived here...
Lol.

Took a 30 win season to get the guy to 500. I don't think he would have survived much longer there tho no one there knew they had a basketball team 12 months ago. Don't think there will be any NCAA or NIT this year for him.
I'd take Moser over Hinson any day of the week. That team last year and this is well-coached. SIU isn't.
What they did last year sure as hell wasn't just based on talent, because they were lacking in that department compared to the other 3 Final Four teams. (Although I thought his coaching against Michigan was a bit lacking - didn't go to Krutwig nearly enough.)
I haven't posted in years, but I too will never forget that game. My kids were still around ten years old and it was an family adventure walking into the Butler building through the snow. As I remember it, the snow was a foot or more deep. The Butler fans were surprisingly nice and welcoming. The game itself was without-any-doubt the most enjoyable sporting event I have ever attended. I still remember dinner afterwards. We were all so happy and exhausted all at the same time. It seems like a lifetime ago.
My kids attend Texas Tech now, so I've become a big Red Raiders fan, but I so miss the glory days of SIU ball. And I remain a lurker here in the forums...
Hopefully Drake wins the conference and Loyola loses at Arch Madness.. I need a breath of fresh Bryan Mullins air... and soon.

The elephant in the room at the Arena on Sunday will not be Cameron Krutwig ... it will be which bench will Mullins be sitting on when the teams match up in 2019-2020? 🤣

Food for thought-Pat Knight was 79-123 as a head coach, in seven seasons his teams made one NIT appearance (final 8 for TTU) and one NCAA appearance for Lamar. That's two better than the self-proclaimed "Dean of the MVC" at Southern.
What roster will Mullins have? Cook (the good one) and who else?
Seriously, can next year's team win 10 games?

Why not? see Drake and Missouri State. Hire him early in the spring so that there are still some good players available. His first job should be to convince Cook and McGill to stick around, the redshirts will stay, re-recruit the recruits, get into the JUCO and transfer market and see what you can build. The big mistake would be giving 4 year scholarships just cause they are there to give. If you have to struggle for a year, struggle.

Relation to you? LOL
Also played in a really weak conference. No way!

Oh no no no no no!. I don't think Pat Knight should have been hired by Texas Tech at all and I would not advocate hiring him now. However, it's pretty sad that the Dean couldn't do in 7 years here what a guy who should not have been coaching accomplished in 7 years at 2 stops. That's all.

Hopefully Cook stays! Eric McGill should be eligible for a Grad-Tansfer, but hopefully he stays too!
I also hope that Darius Beane stays and cousin Jimmy Beane joins next year as planned. I think Anthony Beane Sr.'s coaching credentials should carry him through the Hinson influence with Mullins! Regardless of the fact that he has been with Hinson all seven long years, he has contributed a lot to the Saluki program. Like to see that contribution continue for at least the next three - four years!
We only have Hinson's word to go on for the redshirts, Since practice is closed, no one has seen those players during scrimmages to see how they compete. Can't really say what the Dawgs would lose if they left or weren't extended a scholarship under Mullins.
Does Bryans older brother, Brendon, join him on staff at SIU or stay at Illinois State? They played on the same high school team for two years together, but sometimes sibling rivalry may be to strong for them to work together on the same staff.
For a while I agreed with you and thought maybe retaining Beane was a good idea.
On more thought I really don’t see it. Fresh start from the top down. Erase the stench completely. I am sure Mullins will try to keep the two boys but he will bring in his own coaches

This has gotten interesting. Darius is going to be a very solid 4-year player, the kind we used to have with Darren Brooks and those guys. With Barry out of coaching altogether, does some other program hire the dad just to get to Darius, or is the cousin part of a package deal now?
Beyond that (I have lots of questions for you), if you were Mullins, would you try to keep Beane Sr on staff just to keep the 2 players, and if so, don't you pretty much have to make him Associate Head Coach, which he already is?
I think Darius has live in Carbondale since 7th grade, so his friends are here. But it does seem tricky to have a new coach keep a previous assistant.
I'll shut up now.
I don’t have any answers. I am guessing with you
