Look, I'm all for Brian Mullins, BUT, has anybody even looked outside the Saluki family tree for possibilities?

What about someone who isn't from a power conference or a retread?

T.J. Otzelberger has done a good job at South Dakota State since taking over there, and his teams put up a lot of points.  Scoring 75+ per game would certainly help fill some of the vacant seats in the Arena.

Brian Dooley is the Associate Head Coach at Wright State, and is in charge of recruiting.  He's grabbed talent from Illinois and convinced them to head east.  He's fairly young as well.

I just hope the search committee is using a wide cast with their net.  First, of course, the current occupier of the helm needs to get the hook.

I don't think we can do better the Mullins and if we can get him we will be very fortunate. It will bring a lot of people back, including me.

I think that we probably would not find anyone who fits better.  Yes there are other possibilities out there but consider;

Mullins played here when we were at our best.  He knows what it was like and what it takes.  He knows the school, the area, and hopefully still has contacts.

He knows the MVC.  He knows the schools, the teams, and has a head start in knowing what they will look like next year personnel wise and offensive and defensive schemes they will be using.

He can recruit, not only here but with his connections to the Chicago area.  In another post somewhere it showed that all three of Loyola's signees for next year played for his dad I believe.  That speaks volumes.  He knows what kind of players he will need to get us back to where we all want to be.

It will certainly be a high pressure situation for him coming back.  I know we will all give him time but I think he will put enough pressure on himself to succeed as quickly as possible.  And from his playing days I can't think of anyone else I would rather have than him in a pressure situation.

We need to have this done and be able to move forward.  Any hire is a gamble.  But I think Mullins checks more boxes that we want than anyone else out there.

I hope it happens!

Let's be honest. The next coach is going to have to pull a camel out of his ass to win 12 games next year.  The cupboard is bare.  You can thank the Dean for the pathetic class balance.

If the new coach can hold onto McGill, Cook and Beane and the recruits there are a lot of options.  Those 3, if used properly could be a nightmare to play against. They have to be used properly.  If they are coached up on defense by Bryan Mullins they could be a scary man to man team.

Agree. Only the scheduling wizardry of  Coach Hinson could give them a shot at a 20 win season.

When you're feeling doubtful, just say "Coach Mullins" out loud.

It always brings a smile to my face.   😎

A Mullins hire will erase the lingering Hinson stench very quickly. One man feigns at excellence from the top of a house of cards while the other knows excellence; lives and breathes it and expects it of himself first and foremost.

I think Cook would have to sit out if he transfers unless he graduates in 3 years. McGill is probably graduating as he's been in school for 4 years, so he'll be an attractive grad transfer option to a lot of schools who quite frankly will be better than us next year. I assume Beane leaves. I just don't think Mullins keeps his father around. As mentioned previously, I'm sure the Beanes have a soft spot for SIU, but will they be loyal to Mullins? If they clash, they'll most certainly split up the locker room. It'll be a toxic experience for a first time head coach with like 6 seasons under Porter Moser as the extent of his coaching experience. The freshmen will compete, but this is a man's league. They'll struggle at times.

Next year will be a rebuilding year for us. If we keep the seniors, there's harmony between Mullins and the Beanes, the freshmen play above their potential, and Hinson miracuously found gems in the walk-ons, and have no major injuries, then we might have an outside shot to win in St. Louis to make the NCAA tournament next year. That's the most realistic ceiling, but that's if everything goes right. If we're only somewhat lucky and say 2 of those 5 things come to fruition, we're in the bottom half of the conference without question. ISU has a ton of good transfers sitting out this year. Loyola will reload. MSU and Valpo will be good and more experienced.

Mullins will be a great coach for us as a long term investment, but he won't be a miracle worker next year. Be patient and let him build and recruit as he sees fit rather than try to scrape together a 17-15 season.

Loyola is reloading with three wolves players. It is entirely possible they follow B Mull
