Let’s be real as bad as our enrollment has been is anyone in “marketing” really that high tier we should worry about their feelings? What is she gonna do, quit? Oh noes!
Ken Moses from Missouri State University will be on staff. He is the fiance of the Marketing lead at SIU.
This is true. Moses was at the game and visited with Kill at the tournament.
Clancy is likely to stay too
No No No NO NO FUCKING NO
As mentioned earlier, no coach would want the AD rounding out their staff. Moreover, we have no leverage in this negotiation to make unreasonable, nevertheless ridiculous, demands. Remember there are 2 good options for Bryan (take this job or stay at LUC as the head coach in waiting, which will happen in probably 3 years or less). They more money than SIU, they're in Chicago, and I bet their administration is not stupid enough to force nepotism down his throat. If he says no because of dumb shit like this, we're going to a scrambling for a really lackluster Plan B. I bet our current Plan B would be Luke Yaklich at Michigan, formerly at IlSU, and he's a former Wolves guy. If Bryan doesn't take this job because we lowball him or try to assert him into unnecessary office politics, it will get back to Yaklich who will then pass on us too.
We can't afford to screw this up. No lowball offer, no dumb demands, no meddling from non-basketball people in fucking marketing. If SIU braintrust isn't stupid, Kill can get this done coach to coach.
For a while I agreed with you and thought maybe retaining Beane was a good idea.
On more thought I really don’t see it. Fresh start from the top down. Erase the stench completely. I am sure Mullins will try to keep the two boys but he will bring in his own coaches
As a long time lurker to this site and DePaul grad school alum, I have to chime in to stress just how important this advice is. When my grad school was looking for a coach a few years ago, our ******* AD interviewed both Bobby Hurley and Bryce Drew and insisted to both of them that the new head coach would keep Billy Garrett on staff because his son was basically the one Big East caliber player on the roster. Suffice to say, any respectable head coaching candidate was going to want control of their staff hires from day 1 and both walked. We had to settle for a retread, and obviously the rest is history. The Beanes are nice players, but neither of them are LeBron. It's more important for Mullins to fill out the staff and rebuild the culture as he sees fit than try to salvage whatever talent on the roster we currently have for an extra win or two in what is most certainly a rebuilding year. Remember, SIU is the party in this negotiation that needs to be saying mea culpa rather than making demands, not the other way around.
As for those Loyola comments, there's some truth and some falsehoods in there. Moser is not getting hired anywhere, so there's no spot for Mullins to be promoted. However, say some P5 AD hypothetically goes crazy and hires Moser this year, Loyola is a better short-term job than SIU. Until Krutwig leaves in 2 years, they will be the class of the Valley. We will compete under Mullins, but this will be a rebuilding job given the lack of depth on next year's roster and hopefully promising freshmen on the 2020-2021 roster. I can absolutely see Mullins going to the NCAA tournament in each of his first two years at Loyola and then turning around and taking a bigger job. I just don't see that happening for him at SIU until year 4 or 5. We all are going to need to stress patience as the new coach gets us back on the road to respectability, whether it's Mullins or somebody else.
TL;DR, best of luck to our new AD
Bumping this just in case some dumb shit in the administration thinks they're smarter by half. Hopefully they understand that the worst thing we could do is become DePaul South except without Villanova and the massive Big East tv contract keeping us afloat. My masters school is mired in basketball mediocrity; please don't let it happen to my undergrad alma mater
Moser's stock took a bit of a hit with their early exit. It probably would still be fairly high had they won the thing or at least made the title game. Winning the league then watching as the 5th place and 6th place teams duke it out isn't going to flood his inbox with P5 offers.
And I don't think he's a serious candidate for a top P5 job. Could he go to a lower end P5 school that's looking for a change? Maybe. But a place like UCLA? No way.
I think Loyola could be a really good Valley job if they had a bigger arena to play in. That renovated HS gym they play in is nice, but isn't going to help with recruiting. It also limits potential revenue.
If Moser was going to jump I would have thought he would have done it last year when his reputation would never be higher. He may just be smart enough to realize he can make a pile of money at a private school like Loyola and have a pretty good amount of job security too.
Moser signed a 7 year extension with a huge buyout clause if he leaves. He is not going anywhere

They will regret it. Ask any ISU fan.
Moser's career record is .522 at 3 schools! That's in Hucky's league. He simply caught lightening in a bottle last year and will never duplicate that again.
He is well-suited for Loyola and should stay put. No Power 5 schools will be beating his door down!
This doesn’t really mean much, but just in case you guys care to see this from Todd Hefferman on Twitter:
Loyola associate HC @Bryan_Mullins_ was kind enough to talk to me today. He said he has not been contacted by SIU about its opening. Mullins said he is focused on the NIT but is keeping his options open after that. #Salukis
That was a complete waste of a question. What did you expect him to say? "No, I haven't been contacted but SIU, but my agent's phone is blowing up."

Two MVC Championships in a row is nothing to sneeze at. Moser's a far better coach than he used to be. Spending 5 years with Majerus might have helped. I like they way his team's play on both ends. They are one of the best coached teams in the MVC (certainly way better than SIU), and I expect Loyola to be good for a long time with their connections to Chicago high school basketball.
Will they get back to the Final Four? Probably not. How many mid-majors do? None that I can remember, but I believe Loyola has a good chance of getting back to the NCAA in the next couple of years. Wouldn't surprise me a bit to Moser move up in the next few years.
Townes had a bad-shooting night, as player's sometimes do, and Bradley played the game of their careers, and the refs let them brutalize Krutwig and Townes without calling obvious hard fouls. That is the only reason mediocre Bradley is going to the dance. They were fortunate to beat a so-so UNI team short on talent. I expect Bradley to get the gargoyle thrashed out of them in their only tournament game.
As far as I'm concerned, the team that did it all year and proved they were the best team in the conference should be the auto-bid to the NCAA - that's Loyola.
Just got home after a weekend in the Lou. Observations & Thoughts
-The pre-game Hilton gathering was encouraging. Coach Kill gave a passionate speech and now I know how he got the most out of his players. He acknowledged current realities and how they did not live up to his expectations. He laid out a plan and goals for the next few years focusing on gaining back fans and fundraising.
-I witnessed the booing of Coach Hinson after the game. It was not appropriate and not a good look for Saluki fans amongst Valley peers. However, I have an alternate take on the booing. I'm glad we have a fanbase that is still passionate and expects results. I live near multiple Valley schools and see what mediocrity breeds in a fanbase. So even though I didn't agree with it, I'm encouraged were going to rally around the next person.
-I hope we complete a national coaching search. Although I am a big fan of Bryan and would be very happy with his selection, I want to see us kick the tires around the country. I'm drawing on comparisons with Nick Hill and hiring the young, alumni coach. I believe the jury is still out and want to ensure were not rushing the process. It would also be interesting to have your flagship programs having head coaches with a combined age under 70.
-Good luck to Barry in the future. I feel for his situation and inability to make the tournament. I do believe he did more to keep us out of NCAA issues in the begging, than we'll likely know.
-With that being said the time is now to step up as fans. There have been multiple posts about not renewing season tickets or not donating until Barry is gone. Well that has happened, don't wait to see if you like the new coach, do it now. Support the direction, support change and follow-up on those statements. It would be a shot in the arm to Lingle Hall if the phones are ringing Monday with fans supporting the new direction of Saluki Athletics. Go Dawgs!
I agree with you on the Majerus education. He is a better coach than in the past - but if you take last year's record away from him, he still is below .5oo at Loyola. His personality is also a good fit for Loyola. The Mullins AAU connection has helped his recruiting tremendously, as I think he has 3 recruits for next year coming from the AAU Wolves team.
My point was he "should stay put" as I think he is a good fit for Loyola and they have made a solid commitment to him.

Butler. Back-to-back title games 2010 & '11, tho they lost both.
If you're gonna reply to me in the forums, please quote what I wrote that you're replying to so I have a clue...thanks! 😀

I get what your saying but if Mullins is the target and absolutely should be. Why waste the money on a search ?
