Both those hires worked out pretty well.  I don't think someone should be disqualified because they don't come as an assistant from Duke or Kansas.  This is all about finding the right fit at this time.

Hey now. Watch it.  Our last hire came in as an assistant from Kansas.  🤣

Comparing the Nick Hill siuation to the Bryan Mullins situation is not fair to either one of those young men. Please don't do it.

I am not trying to be a smartass here but why? Young alumni coaches from the '00 glory days with very little to no head coaching experience seem similar.

I like Hill a lot and really really hope he succeeds. He was a high school coach who came cheap in hopes it works out.

Bryan is a D-1 associate head coach with final four experience. Honestly if he was not an alumni he would probably not even return SIU’s call  he is a rising star with the ultimate recruiting connection.   Not even comparable

Mullins is an extremely successful assistant in both recruiting and developing Final Four talent.  Not even close to similar to Nick Hill.

Lol after several pm’s. I nor 69 have any source on this search. We are doing our best but the logo leak was a killer. If We hear anything that can be verified we will pass it along. I did talk to a national sportswriter today who said it would be Mullins and I trust him but I do not believe he had any kind of inside anything it was just a gut feeling.

Of course if you had premium access you would already know this 🤣

Getting a new coach is like getting married. You never "know" for sure. Having said that, I will be 500% happier if Bryan is the new guy than I was when Barry was hired.

From Jeff Gordon at the Post-Dispatch (3/11/2019):

Hinson was 116-111 in seven seasons at SIU in Carbondale. His teams never reached the NIT or NCAA Tournament -- and he knew he needed to reach one of those postseason events this season to keep his job. Loyola associate head coach Bryan Mullins appears to be the frontrunner to replace him.

I just threw up in my mouth a little.  This just in from Hero Sports:

"Given Kill's old-school nature and affinity for loyalty and long-term relationships, keep an eye on Chris Lowery. Lowery was Southern Illinois head coach from 2004-12 while Kill was Salukis' football coach (2001-07) and has been on Weber's staff at Kansas State, where Kill spent time as an associate athletics director after departing Minnesota, since 2012."

Other names mentioned include Thad Matta, SLU assistants Van Macon and Will Bailey, Purdue assistants Greg Gary and Steve Lutz, Minnesota assistant Rob Jeter, former Oregon State coach Craig Robinson, Bryan Mullins, Penn State coach Pat Chambers if he is fired.

Make it happen Jerry!   This would be great news if he could restore this relationship that Moccia ripped apart!

First off wtf is hero sports ?

Robinson and Chambers ? Good god

if he brought in Lowery his house would burn before the presser was over

thad Matta is interesting he is from southern Illinois and if he is cheap enough I would be ok with that one 😀

Is Hero sports part of The Onion?

I would be extremely happy with a Thad Matta hire, but I don't think we could afford him.

Chambers would be solid. His teams play a Valley style of toughness that would translate very well in my opinion.

Matta is about the only other name I'd be okay with that I've heard floated around. Mullins is the home-run choice though. And LMAO at Chris Lowery. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
