Kill says he would like to have someone named by next Monday.
Search committee seems to be Kill and a couple of people from the administration.
If he's looking to name a new coach by next Monday, that may rule out both Lowery and Mullins. Both of those coaches will still be with teams moving forward in postseason play and I can't see him naming either as the new coach until Loyola or Kansas State season officially ends.
I read this as whoever they hire is picked already which would give credence to all of the Mullins rumors.
Yea the way he ducked the former player question was telling.
Said he would pay more than hinson got. Thats a good sign.

I’m about to go listen to this press conference. Just came here after I saw the quote on Twitter about them hiring a coach by next Monday because that almost confirmed to me that they know who the coach is. If they were to do a coaching search, we probably wouldn’t get a hire for at least 2 weeks, probably more. For reference, Lowery was fired on March 2nd and they didn’t announce the Hinson hire until March 28th.

Looks at it this way. Mullins knows SIU inside and out. Doesn't need wining and dining and there's no need for a drawn-out interview process. A phone call or two and a quick face-to-face meeting might be all it takes. The only other way they could move that quickly is if they promote Beane Sr., which seems like a nonstarter (although you never know).
There was a “situation” last year and Kill told Barry to take his $350k and get out of there?
I live in Oregon and watched Oregon State struggle with Robinson. Really nice guy, he is NOT someone that belongs in Carbondale. By the way what is anyone thinking that mentions Lowery? He is never coming back to coach the Salukis.
WOOF!

I posted that a few days ago. 😎

It’s possible Oregon State just wasn’t a good fit for him. He has Chicago connections and would be a pretty big name for SIU. That being said, you probably watched more Orevon State than me and know how his team played.

How much higher than 350,000 do you think we can go?

Whispers around here are around the $500,000 range.

So if kill wants a coach by next week. Does that mean they have to be unemployed at this point. Or can you talk to coaches still on teams?

Mullins is going to the NIT but I’m sure they can announce a hire before they play another game. Or Loyola can be out by Tuesday/Wednesday of next week.
We have had good coaches and bad coaches over the many years I have watched Saluki basketball. I got to see the NIT champions coached by Jack Hartman as a high school kid in Carbondale. I personally wasn't that impressed by Paul Lambert but looking back he was a pretty good coach. I watched every home game Joe Gottfried and Allen Van Winkle coached at the S.I.U. Arena. I was not impressed when the school hired Rich Herrin straight out of high school coaching, and had to admit he made a good college coach. I thought hiring Chris Lowery was a good choice at the time and later really regretted it. I never thought much of Henson and am now glad he is gone.
What I am trying to say is nobody making hiring decisions for head coaches is always right, but at least a necessary change has been made and whomever the coach is that is hired deserves our support. The decision makers will do the best they can in light of the real world situation and finances at SIU. Lets all hope their choice turns out to be a good one. In the end all we can do is support the choice and the players as long as we can.
Lou Henson never coached here! Heck of a coach though! LOL
I loved those Rich Herrin teams. He was a darn good coach and not a bag of bull feces like BH.
