I agree, even if he doesn’t work out I won’t mind. I don’t think you could ask for a better hire, especially the state of the program right now.
I also like the idea of hiring a younger guy, like Murray State has done for years, because I think one of Barry’s biggest flaws was he couldn’t really connect to his players. Which is why kids continued to flee every year from here.

Until we become a staying power again and can afford to pay the right person big $$ to stay for years, having a younger coach who is hungry to advance themselves and advance a program that they can put their "stamp" on is our best strategy. That being said, if Mullins makes this thing really good again, we can roll out the big bucks for him to keep him around if other programs come calling. Or maybe Mullins will have a great coaching tree in place like Weber had with clearcut guys who can keep it rolling.

Think he would be a terrific assistant coach. He has proven to be a great recruiter at JA. With Mullins and his recruiting connections, plus Smithpeters’ connections we could definitely get the ball rolling on getting talent back into Carbondale!
