Was just told there is another school in the mix for Bryan. I can not confirm this yet nor do I know who it is. I will pass along anything I hear

Realistically who would offer Mullins that would be more enticing than SIU?  He is not going from Loyola Associate Head Coach to a Power 5... Likely not even an A-10 or American School.  Even if another school is involved I would expect them to be a lower level or of similar stature as SIU... In which case, advantage school he played for and has ties to.... Assuming he was not low balled...

I can tell you he was not low balled the offer is north of 350k

herosports posited that CLo had a chance at a return, I am going to automatically discount any names they put forward from here on out.

I don't have any sources here but there's no way Chris Lowery's name was even mentioned.  It's not going to happen.

If it was, someone should be fired immediately.

It would sort of be classic SIU if they ended up losing mullins to another school when they could have had him all to themselves if they had done the smart thing last season

Found this quote from a southern Illusion story on his hall of fame inducement last year.  Just found it interesting some of the things he said about his alma mater.

"Coach Kill called me and told me he had some good news," Mullins said. "I really wasn't expecting the news that he was telling me. It's awesome just because of my experience there, my journey there, and all the memories that I have, and all the coaches, the players, my family. Everyone that was part of that process. For that school to recognize me, it's a huge honor."Mullins said he was still trying to map out his speech. "I'm still trying to find out, do I have to give a speech?" he said. "I'll probably thank my family, my teammates, my coaches. Just the commitment of Southern Illinois. It was special down there. All the people who took me in and the fans that came out to those games every single time. It was a crazy environment down there. I still remember College Game Day coming down there, or the White Out against Indiana. Some of those atmospheres stick with you, probably for the rest of my life."

I doubt we could pay him what he's getting at Clemson and I don't see him leaving Brownell, but if Mullins were hired I think Marty would be a great assistant to have on staff.  Bash the guy all you want for his lack of success (if you want to call it that) at Evansville but I think Marty is a tremendous basketball mind and a great teacher of the game.  As a former HC I think he's a great addition to a staff with a HC with no previous experience.

I'm not against Mullins but my experience is that it is a LOT different from assisting the man to being the man.  There is so much more to worry about and be responsible for as a HC.

Another basketball mind I think would make a great assistant (and again unlikely to be here) would be Brad Soderberg.

I know that.  I think he'd be a great assistant to have if you were a first time head coach.  I know it won't happen, but I'd like to see a mix of assistants around Mullins that he can rely on.  Too many head coaches hire friends and not basketball minds

Anyone care to hazard a guess as to when this process will be over and a coach chosen?

But if Simmons came here, they'd have to build another Dunkin Donuts near the arena! 😀  Simmons probably makes more as a Clemson assistant than he did as HC at EVansville. He was the lowest paid coach in the MVC.  Soderberg is an assistant at Virginia - not a bad coach if I remember right.
