Does Troy having coaching experience?
Experience, albeit not as a head coach, and familiarity with the current landscape are reasons I think Mullins would strongly consider keeping Beane around, aside from his son and nephew. I don't think he will land the job at the E.
The E has already hired. The "interim" title is on Barone pending BOT approval of his contract.
Noted. I'd seen the rumor, but wasn't sure it was official.
He's interim - that doesn't mean AB won't get the job. I assume they're still looking.
AB will NOT get the job. They are not looking and the position has been filled. They are waiting on BOT approval of the Barone contract before removing the interim tag.
"EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE has named Brian Barone as men's basketball interim head coach pending final Board of Trustee approval. An assistant coach for the Cougars over past two seasons, Barone will begin directing the program following Jon Harris, whose contract was not renewed after four seasons."

It's been reported that Billy Kennedy has Parkinson's, so not sure how that will impact his future. He had some good years in College Station with 2 sweet sixteens to his record . A&M is supposedly going after Texas native Buzz Williams.
I guess it’s possible if the money is right but really why would Buzz leave VA Tech ?

Like his time at Marquette, Buzz has worn out his welcome at VT. And he really wants to get to Texas.
March on triumphantly!
I don’t know anything about the situation. Does he have an attitude problem ?
Texas A&M has big money (like Jimbo Fisher money) and Buzz is a native of Texas and previously worked for Billy Clyde at A&M.
Also easier to win in the SEC versus the ACC. He has done a great job at Va Tech and it's not easy to recruit to rural Blacksburg.
I just checked out their board. It seems he is a lot like CLO. Leveraging others teams interest for more money. They don’t seem too upset he is likely leaving
He has done a good job but has an inflated view of himself. He absolutely wants to return to Texas. That's probably his biggest problem/motivation.

He has been interested in most of the Big openings across the country since he landed at VT. I'm not sure why he left Marquette, but that move to VT had a lot of people scratching their heads. Make no mistake, VT is a football school and basketball will always play second fiddle, but Texas A&M is the same situation where football is king.
Both Marty Simmons and Brad Soderberg would be great additions to our staff at SIU - but frankly we can't afford either as an assistant. I know Soderberg has a 250k salary plus post season bonuses at UVA. Soderberg is Tony Bennett's right-hand man and is very close to the Bennett family.
I do agree that Bryan could use a veteran assistant (if he indeed is named as our coach). It is a giant step to the head coaching position. Having someone with prior HC experience would be invaluable.
Anthony Beane Sr. was an Assistant for Soderberg during his Saint Louis HC job, 02-06. NIT appearances in 02-03 (1st round) and 03-04 (2nd round). By-the-way, Soderberg played for Coach D i c k Bennett (Tony's father) for two years at Wisconsin - Stevens Point (NAIA).
The Marty Simmons stuff is interesting even if you were referring to SIUe. Clemson just lost to NC State in embarrassing fashion and I could see them firing Brownell which would free up Simmons.
Simmons has ties to the area and was a hell of a recruiter at Evansville despite not being a great head coach. He got guys like DJ Balentine, Egidijus Mockevicus, and Colt Ryan to go to Evansville and have them dominate the Valley. I think he’d be a great answer for Mullins’ associate head coach job if that’s where the Salukis go.

I used to say same thing about all of the SEC teams (except Kentucky 😉 ) but the conference has been investing in Basketball Note that football first schools including Auburn, Tennessee and LSU are all ranked in the AP Top 25. Even Mississippi State got 37 votes. This kind of two sport success is approaching Big 10 territory. IMHO the A&M job could be very worthwhile.

Agreed. If A&M wants Buzz Williams, they have the financial resources to get him. You are correct on the state of basketball in the SEC, as it is vastly improved and they have some really good coaches in that league - but it is still not the ACC.

He may have recruited top guys but couldn’t recruit enough of them to be successful. He is a great basketball mind but UE is tough to recruit too and he just couldn’t get enough talent around those guys to win.
