The Marty Simmons stuff is interesting even if you were referring to SIUe.  Clemson just lost to NC State in embarrassing fashion and I could see them firing Brownell which would free up Simmons.

Simmons has ties to the area and was a hell of a recruiter at Evansville despite not being a great head coach.  He got guys like DJ Balentine, Egidijus Mockevicus, and Colt Ryan to go to Evansville and have them dominate the Valley.  I think he’d be a great answer for Mullins’ associate head coach job if that’s where the Salukis go.

He may have recruited top guys but couldn’t recruit enough of them to be successful. He is a great basketball mind but UE is tough to recruit too and he just couldn’t get enough talent around those guys to win.

He didn't get "top" guys.  He got good ones, ones that could develop and thrive in the system that Marty taught and ran.   I doubt Colt Ryan or DJ Ballentine would have thrived under HUCKY.

Ball is in Kill’s court

So if the ball is back in Kill’s court Mullins made a counter offer? Looking forward to this process being complete! The suspense is killing me.

I never said there was any counter offer.  I am trying to piece this together the best I can as I get information .

I am confident Bryan is our next head coach

For me, if it isn’t Mullins I would hope for someone like Lutz (top recruiter) from Purdue or dream world Thad Matta. I think Matta is out of our price range (if he even wants to get back in to coaching).

Mullins has an awful lot going for him and would energize a fan base that has really eroded over the past 5-10 years. If he is excited to lead the Salukis back to prominence, I would need a really, really compelling case to be made for any other candidate chosen ahead of him.

It's been really quiet so far this week. Looking forward to some desperately needed good news for the program and the university ... hopefully soon.

I agree 100 % with you. Mullins is the best hire. Anyone short of Bryan, will be a let down for me.

Are you referring to Purdue assistant Steve Lutz?

One name I’d throw out is Charlie Henry of the G League Windy City Bulls.  He has Midwest ties and assisted under Fred Hoiberg at Iowa State.  He was supposed to be a potential candidate for the Bulls job but it looks like that won’t open.  Could be out of SIU’s price range though

Apparently Roger Powell is interested and would be a great candidate.  Recruits very well.

In addition to not loving the UIUC tie, Vanderbilt (where he is at now) is absolutely horrendous. Not blaming it all on him by any stretch, but just saying.

Would feel much better about this if Vanderbilt didn’t just go 0-19 in the SEC.  I know Darius Garland got hurt but that’s still nearly impossible to do.

Pretty sure they had many injuries this season.  Not positive on that.
