Kent Williams would be a terrible option.

I don't know about terrible ( I can think of worse) but I don't believe he is the BEST option at this point.

Sadly, I agree. Please let's not do that. Ditto for Brad Korn, which is another name that I've seen bandied about elsewhere.

(Inflammatory political snark)

Korn has probably learned a lot from Bruce. That being said no way over Mullins

If we are picking off the K-State staff give me Chester Frazier over Korn for sure!

Agreed. I’d like to get away from that general group. I know Lowery is tied to Mullins but I don’t think it’s that “tree” so I’m good with him.

Korn or Williams  are good kids, with great families, I just do not see being ready to be a head coach for D1 basketball, results will be similar to what happened with the guy that got us to BBQ Barry. As hand picked assistants for another recruited coach, then maybe.

But if we are shopping off the bargain shelf,

Why not Tony Young, Darren Brooks, or Jamal Tatum? (Like Mullins, those who coached the team while they were playing?)

Seeing Watson, Lowery, Korn and Irwin standing outside the locker room at halftime, Watson said later they were going in the locker room while coaches were coaching.

It was obvious during the Sweet 16 run in '07.

I haven’t seen anyone even mention a local SIU alum  that has been very successful in his coaching career, Kyle Smithpeters.  Yes, he is young but he is accomplished!  He would be a great fit, —local, personable, and great recruiter!

I don’t dislike Kyle but Mullins is way way way way more qualified

Smithpeters would leave JUCO for a D1 assistant coach gig I assume, right?

More qualified? I don’t know about that. Mullins has never called a timeout, play, or even substituted a player in his life. Smithp 8 years head coaching experience. Plus has two-four players on JALC team that are better than any player siu has right now. Judging by Mullins hof interview, smithp wins personality contest. No offense to Mullins. He seems like nice and smart young man, but he seems like an assistant coach.

I can only assume that anyone touting Kyle Smithpeters over Mullins (or other serious candidates) is a local with a personal connection to him or the family. I won’t get into it beyond that because, frankly, it’s a dumb discussion.
