They took the eye off making the NCAA and put it on their pettiness.
More qualified? I don’t know about that. Mullins has never called a timeout, play, or even substituted a player in his life. Smithp 8 years head coaching experience. Plus has two-four players on JALC team that are better than any player siu has right now. Judging by Mullins hof interview, smithp wins personality contest. No offense to Mullins. He seems like nice and smart young man, but he seems like an assistant coach.
We already had Mr. Personality in a coach. Just give me someone who can recruit and flat out coach. Personality is nice, but Bill Belichick isn't real personable and continues to win. I'm not saying Mullins is definitely the answer, because he hasn't been a head coach of a D1 program before. He appears to be the most qualified though.
In 1998 I heard a lot of the same things about Bruce Weber. "He has been an assistant for 18 years, why him?", etc. That worked out pretty good if I remember, took a few years though.
Take it for what its worth!

What's interesting about this article is all the things he mentioned on here I learned on this thread the middle of this week already. So send BK some cash and quit subscribing to the Illusion. 😆
Sounds like the selection may be announced on Monday. Assuming that the person sdlected is a coach on a team (Ramblers) or another team that are still playing how will that work? Would nt that be uncomfortable? I remember when Michigan or Michigan State coach was hired away during the tournament for the following season he was fired on the spot and Steve Fischer the assistant took over the team. Of course being an assistant on a team would be different than a head coach.
It is unlikely that we would announce the hiring of a head coach while they are still playing.
However, if the person is an assistant on a team playing in the NIT, then that coach would simply resign.
Doesn’t show that for me
Nice. Not sure why it’s not showing on my end.
- According to sports voice this morning Murphy and Hudson said an announcement could be made as early as Monday at 8am
Korn or Williams are good kids, with great families, I just do not see being ready to be a head coach for D1 basketball, results will be similar to what happened with the guy that got us to BBQ Barry. As hand picked assistants for another recruited coach, then maybe.
But if we are shopping off the bargain shelf,
Why not Tony Young, Darren Brooks, or Jamal Tatum? (Like Mullins, those who coached the team while they were playing?)
Agreed. I’d like to get away from that general group. I know Lowery is tied to Mullins but I don’t think it’s that “tree” so I’m good with him.
Seeing Watson, Lowery, Korn and Irwin standing outside the locker room at halftime, Watson said later they were going in the locker room while coaches were coaching.
Tony Young is HC at Marmion, was HC at E. STL but petty politics ran him out. Assistant under Majerus. Great defensive player. Killer attitude. I'd love to see him on the coaching staff. Darren Brooks, another great defensive player, coaches in Texas and I think he runs a basketball academy or something. I'd love to see him on the coaching staff. Don't know what Tatum has been up to be he was a great player too. I think any of these guys really know basketball and would relate to a Caroline, Daniels, Dilliard, Bola way better than BBQ did.

I think it appropriate... We could announce Mullins while Loyola was playing in the NIT. He would not be there, he would be taking care of business until their season is over, as he should. We can still lock it up and announce it. I do not think there is anything wrong with it. Many college football coaches are hired away before Bowl games, doing it before the NIT would seem to be the same scenario.

I can’t recall many scenarios like this (assistant from NIT team), but there is a big difference between the NCAA and NIT. If it’s Mullins, I could see Loyola allowing him to start right away, but maybe not.
Getting antsy for some news ...
Relax it is coming soon. We are fairly confident at this point you will enjoy the news.
Barkeep, it seems you've gone from almost certain to "fairly confident" in the last few days. Has something happened to cause some doubt?
Bring back FLOOR BURN U !!
Nope just the way it was worded. No definitive answer yet though
It is unlikely that any conference school would allow the head coach of Southern Illinois University to sit on their bench during a game. Besides, he will have a lot more important things to do than sit around and watch an NIT game.
