This article just confirms that Mullins is an outstanding choice for the Salukis.  Having said that and knowing I'm getting way ahead of things since he hasn't been hired yet, I would love to read an interview of Bryan and maybe his brother about this move back to SIU.  Of course, I remember those great interviews done a few years back of Saluki players conducted and written up by "the Bobber."  He'd be my first choice. knowing he would be able to put the entire saga into  context.  He is an excellent writer and well steeped into the whole love affair between the Basketball program and its fans.

WOOF!

I just want this to be wrapped up so whoever the new coach is can start working on next years roster.  Ford and Devries have shown you can turn a program around in short order if you know what you are doing.

There is a reason we don't have a contract yet and it is not the lawyers/agents.   Yes there is a desire to be a head coach sooner that later.  But, he has professed a desire to remain in Chicago area.  So he is working on the perfect deal.  Worst case scenario: We hire Mullins, he is below .500 and never wins.  More probable: He goes .500 first year, DePaul cans Leitao, Mullins gets his preferred job in preferred town.  Best Wish:  He goes .400, .500, .600... ish, makes post season, gone in 4th or 5th year and we are right back where we started.   Recruits won't be our problem either way.  And he is the easiest and most defensible hire.

Pretty confident the main “hold-up” right now is Loyola’s NIT game tonight.

In terms of DePaul’s interest, I think SIU and Mullins are really going to have to make a huge impression next year for them to be interested in him.  If we get to that point though, we should all be estatic that the program is headed in a positive direction and we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.  DePaul has money and probably would be interested in bigger named coaches than Mullins at least right now.

I don't buy the DePaul argument; there are certain places where it's unwinnable, and DePaul is up there on that list. I think any coach weighing options would look at program strength, and DePaul had been horrid outside of a decent year this past season.

Saw that and couldn’t believe they’d fire a legend like that and not let him leave on his own.  Can’t imagine being the guy replacing him, it’s already a competitive city for recruiting.  My guess is, they have a name in mind already if they were willing to fire someone like Martelli

DePaul is still a good job at this point.  You have a new arena and the Big East to recruit to.  As I said though, Mullins would have to win right away for there to be serious interest.  I think they’d much rather make a splash like Porter Moser or another name like Nate Oats than someone like Mullins.  At least for right now.

Relax folks. Remember the Lowery to DePaul kerfuffle?  No one is going to DePaul. Deal's done. When Loyola gets throttled we get our announcement. Killer is relatively relaxed right now.

Got the checkbook out and ready.

Craving a McBride Special!

After checking out their board it looks like Jameer Nelson is who the fans want. I was just concerned they may make a run at Porter.  Seems like it is no concern

Yeah I was just over there and saw that.  They also mentioned Vermont head coach John Becker.  I think St Joe’s is really going to be looking for someone with Northeast ties that can recruit Philadelphia.

It will take someone that understands Philly to replace Martelli.  The Philly market and the Big Five are unique places to recruit - so someone from the Midwest would struggle to find success there.  Martelli was/is a gem and will be difficult to replace.

Don't do this to us BK! One day your confident Mullins will get done the next you are worried about a random firing in college basketball! Are we still confident?!?!
