Wait... I was under the impression THIS was the last year of his contract?  I thought another year was

an "option".  Might be thinking of something else.

A head coach on a one year contract is in fact, a lame duck coach.  He can't rebuild because he can't recruit.

On the oft chance Barry gets a new contract, he could retain his recruiting power, but my guess his next contract won't be with any D1 university's basketball program.

Perhaps, he might find solace in a franchise opportunity with a company featuring outdoor storage buildings?

The contract is through the 2020 season.  For all intents and purposes, this is the year that they must decide to renew or terminate.  NDSU is the only D1 school that I am aware of that lets a contract run out instead of terminating the coach early.

Good to see you back again @salukian

Hey thanks @saluki-69 -  Yeah, it's been a couple years since I visited a Saluki forum.  Kind of lost interest.  It's nice to see some of the same old die hards still lurking here.   😆

I bear no animosity toward BH, but just like a lot of people, I'm ready for a change.

In the unlikely event that we do win the MVC tournament how long of an extension does Hinson get ?  🙄

Just long enough for the bus ride home from St. Louis.,

Then Beane, Autry, or the Arena janitor, can coach one game in the tourney before they meet-up with Hinson at the unemployment office or the BBQ sauce bottling plant.

Its time to move on completely from this regime.

Go Dawgs!

Novsek = HELL NO

Concise.  Clear.  Right to the point.  I like.  And agree.

I know nothing about the guy except for what I remember about him being a solid player during some pretty dark times. I'm asking this to seek information, not to start a fight: Why "hell no" instead of just "no thanks"? Is there something awful about him, aside from just being a sort of "Who is that again?" guy?

great Saluki, solid coaching career.  i'm not sure what he actually does or why we needed to pick him up.  let him apply and compete for the job just like anyone else. i've got nothing against him and don't know much about him.  bless him for trying to give hinson a clue.

I tried to not have animosity. That kind of broke down over the last few games.

This is what I would like to see (though of course it is just a fantasy); Hinson is asked/required to step down as coach and takes a position as an assistant to Kill with his primary function being fund raising.  That way he can put what salesmanship talents he has to some productive efforts.  Also a way to offset what we still would have to pay him.  I doubt he is going to be swamped with offers to coach anywhere else at this point unless he wants to D2 or lower.

Then elevate Beane as the interim coach for the rest of the season, see what he and the rest of the staff can do, if anything.  Then all that will have been tested and the decision can be made on will be leading the program starting next year.

Ahhh, wishful thinking....

This may be wishful thinking but there are also some interesting scenarios here that might work.  It would give the program some breathing room, would give Hinson a place to go and possibly save face for him and allow us to interview a new coach, announce the hire, let the coach recruit, etc.

WOOF!

PT would be good in a PR/marketing job, but not here. Too much of a cloud and distraction. The MVC should hire him to do something.

I agree.  I think there's a place for Hinson promoting or broadcasting in the MVC.

Either way, the sooner SIU moves on from this and starts gauging interest from perspective candidates the better.

Hinson was pretty butthurt when he lost his job at Missouri State. I see that being the same situation here. He won't take any of the blame and will immediately put SIU on his shit list. That was at least his routine after Missouri State canned him. I heard he also refused to wear maroon for the rest of his life after the Bears told him to walk away.
