Well, they have a good core back for next year, just need a PG and a couple of SG.
They're losing a top 3 player in the Valley this year. Things can change with the portal but given how poorly that went this year, I wouldn't hold my breath.
Tough time for Trent to go 0-6. He deserved better today. Had a few shots go in and out. If we don’t shoot well from 3 we lose most of the time. Today was no exception (39% from field, 29% from 3). UNI ran good offense and got fouled a lot (not sure they were all fouls), 33 free throws and Hutson has a career game, tough to overcome.
Southern closes the regular season giving up 80-plus in back-to-back games against Bradley and UNI, and you know they’re not equipped to win shootouts. I thought Johnson had a little more oomph today than he has recently, but now with having to play Thursday, we’ll see how long that lasts.
Sad outcome. And UIC on Thursday is certainly not a gimme. Ugh.
Thanks to the seniors. I appreciate everything they have done while at SIU.
Thanks to all the players and Coach Mullins and staff.
I’m just sad and tired of losing. Something has to change with this program.
I can't really argue about the FT discrepancy in this one, as most of the fouls were legit. So the refs weren't the issue at all here. It was mostly UNI's effective run of their offense, as SIU only forced six turnovers the entire game. UNI must have shot around 60 percent that second half.Tough time for Trent to go 0-6. The second half was better officiated, at least. We see how that played out.
My mind's a bit rusty... but how many Thursday teams have even won three games to reach the MVC final? I really can't recall anyone, but I'll have to check the tourney books.
@goroshnik I don’t think any before, even though Indiana State almost knocked off Bradley last year on Saturday with the new arch madness format.
Valpo is a massive what if. If they had won that year, I imagine they would be on a much better footing. I like the Roger Powell hire there but he needs time and an administration there that can properly back him.
Ah, thanks! I kept thinking there had to be a least one. If anyone's making a run out of Thursday this year, it might be Belmont, as they look like the only Thursday team coming into this on any kind of win streak. My mind's a bit rusty... but how many Thursday teams have even won three games to reach the MVC final? Valpo was the first to make it a few years ago I think
Probably unnoticed by many but McGee walked off the bench and went to the locker room with around 3 mins to go. A person from the coaching staff appeared to go to the locker room and talk him into returning. Judging by the reaction of other players on the end of the bench, I’d say it was being upset over not playing.
1-1 vs Indiana State
0-2 vs Drake
0-2 vs Bradley
0-2 vs Northern Iowa
1-1 vs Belmont
Combined: 2-8, been a theme under Mullins
I wish I could say the numbers lie, but they don't. He's now 3-6 in the coaching matchup against Ben Jacobsen, for what that's worth.
