Over the year I do previews with KenPom numbers for opposing teams but figured I'd go over where the Salukis land and how they're doing.  Click the players name to get a big version of the image.

Lance Jones:

Jones leads the team in possessions and shots.  He's 46th in the country in percentage of possessions when he's on the court (30.4%) and 65th in the country in percentage of shots when he's on the court (30.9%).

Lance leads the Missouri Valley in steals per game with 2.08 steals per game, the next closest is Terry Roberts with 1.52 steals per game.  Jones is 33rd in the country in steal % (4.2%).

His 3 point shooting has taken a step back overall from last year where he was 89th in the country in 3 point % (51-119, 42.9%, he's 51-156 this year, 32.7%) but he's 11th in the Missouri Valley in 3 point shooting % in conference games (35-92, 38.0%).

Marcus Domask:

Domask is 23rd in the country in percentage of minutes played (89.9%) and 1st in the Missouri Valley in conference games (89.4%).  Expected him to get more of a rest coming into the season but those numbers are higher than his Freshman season where he played 86.8% of possible minutes and was 91st in the country.

Domask's 2 point and 3 point shooting percentages are both down from his Freshman season but Domask is 14th in the Missouri Valley in 3 point shooting % in conference games (19-51, 37.3%).

Domask's passing has taken a big step up this season as he's 193rd in the country in assist rate (24.7%) and 7th in the Missouri Valley in conference games (22.0%).

Ben Coupet:

Coupet is having his best season of his five year career at shooting from 3.  He's 182nd in the country in 3 point percentage (45-111, 40.5%) and he's 2nd in the Missouri Valley in 3 point percentage in conference games (28-64, 43.8%).  Only Lucas Williamson of Loyola is making 3's at a higher rate in conference games (42-95, 44.2%).

Coupet is 363rd in the country in effective field goal % (52.5%) and 340th in the country in true shooting % (55.8%)

Steven Verplancken:

Verplancken is 269th in the country in 3 point shooting percentage (38-97, 39.2%) but has taken a big step back in conference games (13-46, 28.3%).  Last year, Verplancken was 8th in the Missouri Valley in conference games in 3 point shooting (32-81, 39.5%).

Verplancken is also 347th in the country in effective shooting % (54.3%) and 498th in the country in true shooting % (55.6%).

Verplancken has been good at not turning the ball over as he's 189th in the country in turnover rate (11.7%) and 7th in the Missouri Valley in conference games (11.2%).

Dalton Banks:

Banks only ranks in assist rate nationally (429th in the country at 19.4%) but he's taken big strides in conference play from the beginning of the season.  Banks is 4th in the Missouri Valley in 2 point % in conference games (30-49, 61.2%) and 5th in the Missouri Valley in free throw rate in conference games (42.6%).

Banks' 3 point shooting has taken a big tumble from last year where he shot 40% on 16-40 shooting from 3.  This year he's just shooting 7-35 overall for 20.0%.  Despite this, Banks is 17th in the Missouri Valley in effective shooting % in conference games (52.9%) and 12th in the Missouri Valley in true shooting % in conference games (58.1%).

Kyler Filewich:

Filewich has seen his minutes decrease from 56.0% last year to 29.9% this year but his shooting stats are about the same.  He was 72-139 from 2 last season (51.8%) and is 52-98 from 2 this season (53.1%).

Last season, Filewich ranked 288th in the country in offensive rebounding % (8.9%) and 109th in the country in defensive rebounding % (22.9%).  This season, he's at 6.6% for offensive rebounding % and 25.9% for defensive rebounding % but doesn't rank nationally due to lack of minutes (minimum 40% of minutes played).

JD Muila:

Muila ranks just below the 40% minutes played threshold to rank nationally in stats on KenPom but his 27.1% defensive rebounding percentage would rank 26th in the country.  That percentage has improved in Missouri Valley conference games too to 30.4%.

Troy D'Amico:

D'Amico has provided more value off the stat sheet this season but he's 8-19 overall from 3 (42.1%) and 6-13 from 3 in Missouri Valley conference games (46.2%).

Trent Brown:

All of Brown's games this year with the exception of his first game against Grambling State have come in Missouri Valley conference play.  Brown is 10-33 from 3 (30.3%) down from 40-106 last year (37.7%) which ranked him 399th in the country.

Does anyone know if there is a college basketball version of statistics showing best lineups?  Struggling to name/find what I am looking for.

Team GPA for fall semester was 3.525, highest GPA ever and highest in the athletics department. First you build the culture.....

Culture is there, winning time starts now!

Where are you getting these stats - they're missing the last few games maybe?   e.g., Jones is 6th in MVC in 3 pt shooting at .396. Coupet leads the league at 44.6%.

MVC:

3-POINT FG PCT             Cl  G  3FG FGA    Pct.
1. Coupet Jr.,Ben-SIU     Sr  18   33   74   .446
2. Williamson,Lucas-LUC Sr  18  49  116   .422
3. Norris,Braden-LUC      Jr  18  35    85   .412
4. Mosley,Isiaih-MSU       Jr  18  36    88   .409
5. Green,AJ-UNI             Sr  17  52  130   .400
6. Jones,Lance-SIU         Jr   17 42   106  .396

It’s possible things changed the last few games

Their adjusted team efficiency with that lineup was 10th in the country

Adj Team Eff Margin: Difference between adjusted team offensive and adjusted defensive efficiency with the lineup on the floor. A higher value is better.

Adj Team Off Eff: Team offensive efficiency (points scored per 100 possession) with the lineup on the floor, adjusted for the strength of opposing players faced. A higher value is better.

Adj Team Def Eff: Team defensive efficiency (points allowed by opponent per possessions) with the lineup on the floor, adjusted for the strength of opposing players faced. A lower value is better.

First time I've heard of this website but I'm poking around a little.  It seems the website really likes Muila's defense.

Top Players

Top Lineups

They put Muila's defense on a similar level to a Lucas Williamson, but obviously you can see his offense is a huge outlier.  This is all of college basketball sorted by DBPR:

DBPR: Defensive Bayesian Performance Rating reflects the defensive value a player brings to his team when he is on the court. This rating incorporates a player's individual efficiency stats and on-court play-by-play impact, and also accounts for the defensive strength of other teammates on the floor with him, along with the offensive strength of the opponent's players on the floor. A higher rating is better.

Unless there is something not seen Muila doesn't really pass the eye test defensively. I mean he wasn't terrible but was mediocre to average on a good night. Not a good rebounder either. He is a guy who should he the 2nd option off the bench on an average team but probably doesn't sniff the court for a good team. He shouldn't be starting for a D1 team.

Artistic FT shooting though!
