I know it rarely (never?) works out for a football player to walk on to the basketball team, but this guy has some impressive numbers (Third team all St. Louis metro):
Ryan Schwendeman, senior, St. Dominic
The 6-foot-5 Schwendeman led the Crusaders to one of the most successful seasons in program history as he averaged 20.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.6 steals per game. A Class 5 all-state selection by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association. Signed with SIU Carbondale to play football.
Sounds like Kyler is entertaining several possibilities for a next stop, including a couple in-state ones. I think he could be a solid starter as an upperclassman in a league like the OVC or Big Sky.

Wouldn't be shocked if he ended up closer to home at one of the Dakotas
I believe Kyler was close to signing with Wofford before we swooped in. I'm guessing that's where he ends up.
As for "stepping up our recruiting" I think last year's class was pretty decent: Scotty Ebube 6'10" C, Troy D'Amico 6'7 PF, Foster Wonders 6'4" SG
Early signing 7'0" C Cade Hornecker wasn't too bad, either. Beat out lots of schools for him. We'll see how this upcoming Spring Signing Period goes.
Everyone seems so sure that Hornecker is a "project."
I remember a day where Foster Wonders was the next big thing and D'Amico was going to be a "project" on this board. I'm not knocking Foster, but look which one needed to redshirt, and which one didn't. Hornecker wasn't the top scorer on his team, but plays in an extremely talented high school team where the offense is ran through a Nova recruit.
My personal guess is Hornecker plays more than Edube next season, but I'll let time and coach Mullins prove me wrong. Maybe even start at Center.

Rockin, while hindsight will be the only one to truly tell, I would say a class of 3 where, factually speaking, only 1 was able to contribute in their fresh year (during a rebuild) isn't ideal. "Decent"?...perhaps, but in year 3 for this staff, I had higher expectations, or at least hopes.
I'm still waiting for this staff to target, recruit and sign a difference maker. We can argue semantics about Domask, but had his coach not left, he would be at NKy and we know Jones was a hold over. So I stand by my strong opinion that this staff needs to step up recruiting.
That being said, I really am optimistic about this offseason and our chances of landing 2 kids that will come in and play meaningful minutes right away. Because I feel that we are only 2 impact players away from a season where postseason play is very possible.
I totally agree with you INSaluki . IF Mullins is going to have any success here he and his staff have to recruit better. Not convinced that we are winning very many recruiting battles. Proof is in the players on our roster. IF we have players transfer out this year there are only 2 that I would hate to see transfer.
Yes, alot of unknowns going into year 4, could be a great season, or could be another mediocre season, Siu is a little short on footspeed , and length. Watching the teams in the tournament this year, the way they are built does not look like siu. Hopefully they can pick up quickly in portal
Banks isn't going anywhere.

I think everyone that should be there is there except Harvey, which isn't really a surprise.
Looks like unless 1 player leaves due to a lingering health concern we will have everyone back except Kyler. With that in mind and while always rooting for good health, my guess is we will have everyone back except for Kyler. I imagine in the post season coach/player one on ones Kyler was given the expectations for his role next year and decided that it would be in his best interest to transfer. I doubt his scholarship was pulled, but I do believe he was probably given expectations of a reduced role. That's usually how those things play out in a program that has standards and transparency with its players. The player retention by the Mullins staff has been impressive!
If everyone else returns the 2 open rides become even more important. We need an immediate impact PG and an impact athletic 4. I would love to see Lance Jones playing the 2, Domask at the 3, Banks backing up PG and D'Amico backing up at the 4 next year. That would mean we got our PG and athletic PF! Go Dawgs!

Almost exactly what I was going to type. Now that Banks is staying, it makes it even more critical that SIU land a proven, true PG that can also score. One that can come in and start from Day 1. A close 2nd is that athletic lengthy wing that can both score but lock down on defense. If those 2 things are accomplished, if those 2 players are truly impact players, then this team really does have a shot to make some real noise next year.
I’m still guessing Harvey scholarship is given to someone one. Hoping his health is good but I can’t see them wasting a scholarship if he is not healthy. The way BM is working the portal, there are more than two openings.
