Officiating a bit inconsistent in this one.

When they weren't calling baby fouls on us, they were ignoring BU hacking on us!

I’m happy that a lot of our fringe players are getting increased minutes/experience. Every game without Domask has felt the same. Guys play tough. However, it’s just not enough. The Valley is pretty damn solid this year, and there’s just no gimmes.
It stinks having little experience down low, too. It just really sucks. All of this sucks. This team better pray nobody leaves after the season; the gap between us and the top of the conference is much wider than we originally thought.
Once again, great effort. Team always plays hard. Just hoping we have enough horses to compete next year. And hoping we can actually find a way to win games with this thin lineup. It’s just depressing. Oh well! Here’s to next year!

Yeah the officiating was marginal, but I simply don't get the free throw thing. It really annoys the hell outta me. BM says we control the things we can control, but how do we shoot such a low percentage? That and missed layups. Is there a free throw/layup clinic these guys can attend in the off season?

Still think we'll be good next few years, but give me a break.

March on triumphantly!

I guess the most depressing part of all this is next year is probably another rebuilding and "we are young" year when it looked like a year that they might start competing.  They've lost 13 of their last 16 in the Valley and haven't been competitive in many of them.  At the very least they were competitive today.

@salukiworld honestly connecting it too last year is a really bad take. This year we lost our best player and best big. Not sure how everyone other than barkeep and a few others can’t see that

We have two of our horses watching from the sideline right now. If we stay healthy next year it could get really interesting.

@dawgbytes I do think they can be competitive next year. I guess I got a little too drunk on the maroon kool-aid earlier in the year. I really thought we could be special a little earlier.

I love Domask but I really don't think he's the difference between being a mid-tier Valley team and being maybe the worst team in the conference.  And if he is that big of a difference, it's showing this team has a lot of work to do in terms of roster.  I will say, if they had Domask today, this game might have been a different story.

Good to see Verplancken play well, Harvey getting back, and Brown be a little more aggressive, driving it...like to see more of that.

Filewich played well..gonna be a beast for us.

We miss Domask.

Our FT shooting was disappointing...58%...BU 95%.

@salukiworld if you take child’s off that roster they probably lose that game to us without domask. Losing an all conference player would hurt any team. It changes how the whole defense has to be played.

I saw a lot that I liked from the Dawgs today. Glad to see Ben Harvey having a good game and I am continued to be impressed by Filewich.  We made some bad decisions at time, but you can't fault the hustle of these guys. They played hard and unselfish. As far as Domask goes, it may be a blessing in disguise for us as it gives guys like Verplanken to step up.  Now if Filewich can get that FT% up to at least 60%....

Folks don't seem to understand just how big  of a loss Mulia was. He is everything we do not have this year. He is a true rim protector. He was one the most highly regarded Juco post player recruits last year. He was supposed to be an elite defender, shot blocker and rebounder. Add the loss of our best player in Domask and it spells huge trouble for Southern. This would have been quite a different story with a health Mulia. If you would have asked me during the pre-season who the key players we could least afford to lose I would have said Mulia and Domask followed by Jones. The only good thing to come from the Mulia injury was that Filewich developed much more quickly. I would like to see us keep Mulia, Domask, Jones, Havey, Verplancken, Brown, Filewich and Banks. Add the 3 highly regarded freshman recruits and 1 or 2 athletic Juco or grad transfer 6'5 - 6'7" wings. I would be fine with not bringing Butler, Long and D'Avanzo back. Technically D'Avanzo and Long could come back due to the extra year of eligibility, but I think getting a couple upper class athletic wings would serve us better. I think we have a shot at being very good next year. It will still be a very tough task as the valley could be really, really good next year!

I really wish SIU used their roster spots more wisely this year.  I get you can't predict a pandemic and Domask/Mulia injuries but they kept an empty roster spot going into the year and they've shown no desire to play Eric Butler.  You wish they could have done more with those 2 spots to make this team more competitive right now especially building off the momentum from last season.

I'm wondering if they thought Butler was a developmental project or they expected more from him right away.  He was a role player on one of the best programs in the country that didn't put up many stats.

We need "athletic" forwards with length.
