As I said last week, Scottie needs to play more and should always be in the game when Clarence is not. Scottie was a huge difference maker today and the more he plays the better he will get.
if I had to describe him in one word it would be “disruptive’. His two tip-in-the-air pass steals and two blocked shots were key in the victory. He is an ominous presence in the paint.Another positive Ebube's presence provides is opening up driving lanes and angles for better post action and passing. He's such a massive presence and the opponent has to respect his ability to crush everything he gets his hands on next to the basket. When he pins his man deep, he clears out so much space our guards have a much easier path to the basket, and if defenders leave Scotty to challenge he's gonna Shaq the rim on 'em.
He didn't have to score to be the catalyst for that massive run. Its not pure coincidence SIU started getting better looks and stopped turning it over.
Play this man!
Yes, those two tip-outs were huge.
And yet ANOTHER thing that won't show up on his stat line: he draws fouls. He got Ellington in foul trouble. It's a shame he's still so bad from the line, but drawing fouls on opponents' bigs is a good thing.

"Disruptive" is spot on. "Disruptive" doesn't show up on the stat sheet, and the way Scottie saved that game cannot be ascertained from the stats.
Going back a few years, and on a smaller scale, that is what I always liked about Bola: he made things happen.
And Ebube has so much more up side.
I'm really hoping Mullins will come around.

Watching Indiana State/Bradley today made me crave for SIU to be playing in a game like that again. Don't think we've seen it since Bryan was a player. The Bradley game last year was probably the closest we've gotten but I didn't personally think last year's team was much of a contender at any point.
Watching Trees/Braves was like watching a different sport compared to SIU though, there's a reason SIU continues to struggle against those teams.
This team is done today. Zero energy and the sloppiest I’ve seen them all year on offense.
say what?
I honestly can't remember the last time I saw so many unforced turnovers. I didn't think we would win so I'm not as frustrated as others. As I said, SIU had virtually no chance at 4th anyway. We're looking like a 6th or 7th place team in Saint Louis..... only slightly better than 9th.
huh?
Might as well just let X take 20 more shots here and go for the scoring lead, 'cause there is no other reason to watch the rest of this turnover-fest.
do what now?
We looked tired from the tipoff..probably should not have taken the team crappie fishing at Kentucky Lake this morning.
yeah probably… waste of a day.
Huge credit to Xavier Johnson for the game-winner yesterday and the awesome season he has has overall. That said, it is apparent he has struggled more with turnovers and general efficiency for most of January compared to his lights-out play in November and December.
Maybe he’s ailing physically a bit, but he’s definitely also being swarmed defensively by everyone he faces coming off of ball screens. Really wish this team had a second point guard that could be trusted to both give X more (some!) rest and also to allow him to play off the ball for parts of the game. Miller clearly is on a very short leash and Sharp has barely seen the light of day, so not sure what can be done there. But any chance of SIU staying in the top 4 and having a chance to do damage in St. Louis would involve X looking more like he did earlier in the year than he has lately.
