Inking the deal with Banterra was one of the smartest things I have witnessed at SIU in the last several years. I believe Jerry Kill was the AD who accomplished that.

No he was the AD when it was finalized. Tommy was behind that
Is Cook still a big donor or did that change with Hinson being shown the door?

this is incorrect. in fact he was offering banterra things that he was told he could not and had no authority to offer. nearly blew the deal that was in place.

Ok, I can't open the article from SI, what's the gist of it??
Dogdays, maybe some of these “donors” you know aren’t following through.
If the school isn’t making money off athletics, a deeper dive as to why is required. Athletics can’t be a money pit for the rest of SIU. Yet you seem to think it should be. Most would disagree with that assessment.
As for any abuse allegations, they have to be investigated fully.

Jarnigan hired an associate AD for compliance (Alex Parker) who gave 9 players impermissible cash loans while at Akron
That seems like a flimsy explanation about firing an AD. I mean even if she failed to vet that guy, then just release that associate AD.
There has to be more to the story than that.
For those who can't open the SI article. He was the associate director of compliance at Akron. He admitted to the NCAA Committee on Enforcement staff that he loaned the money to players totaling $5900 and resigned. Akron's football program received a 2 year probation. He was given a two year show cause order till Aug 2023. The show cause doesn't mean no one can hire him but it does restrict involvement with financial aid legislation which is normally a big part of compliance officer duties.
She had to know this when she hired him.
If you look at the Staff Directory on the Athletics web site, Parker is listed as an Associate AD for Special Projects under Facilities, not Compliance. Granted, that could have been changed in the last 24 hours when all of this broke.
