Definitely hurts for The Valley.....but I'm also in a weight and see mode with Loyola. Moser built that program and they seem to be in good shape this season, but we'll have to see if they can sustain.
The Valley needs to grab Murray State if they have the chance. Murray is obviously a small market, BUT they have a solid basketball history, there are several regional rivalries with other Valley schools, and they would bring more fans to Arch Madness than Loyola ever did.
And they don’t wear goofy ass Harry Potter attire
I hate that. Stay at 10. Or kick out Bradley and add UIC

I guess they're being proactive with the possibility of Missouri State leaving sometime in the future. I'd add Murray State for sure right now because they'll get scooped up by someone if the MVC doesn't. I don't get the need to rush to add 2 more teams though besides them. If Missouri State were to leave, I don't really think UT Arlington and UIC won't still be there as options.
I like the idea of 12. Murray St. makes a lot of sense. UIC certainly has some merit as well.
I don't mind the consideration of 14 either so long as only the right programs are considered. Sign of the changing times. Either change with them, or be left behind.

I wouldn't mind 12 or even 14 if they were adding quality schools like Murray State but UT Arlington & UMKC do nothing for me. I get UIC based on market size and I think it's important that the MVC stays in the Chicago market with SIU, ISUr, Bradley, and Northern Iowa fans in abundance there. I know Valpo is pretty close but it's an easier game for fans of their teams to make. But with 14 teams, you're sharing the Tournament pot with 4 more teams and you have no idea if UT-Arlington or UMKC will ever be relevant.
I'm disappointed that it doesn't seem like they're interested in Northern Kentucky who I think would fit the Valley well.

I'm with you. I'm not a fan of a potential UT Arlington, or especially a UMKC add. Northern Kentucky and perhaps Milwaukee would be much more appealing to me if the MVC wants to go to 14.

Murray State and UIC would be great fits. Why would MoState leave? Who would be interested in them? They certainly haven't dominated the MVC (like Loyola.)

Going FBS in football

don't forget that only one MVFC school wants murray college. murray refuses to go anywhere without football. i think you can afford to wait until the power conferences kick out everyone else from FBS. it's coming. south dakota state is no slouch in hoops. they are in the 50s in sagarin ratings. kansas city has been getting better and i would take them long before illinois-chicago. however neither has much fan support.

wonder if some of the bears to fbs talk dies down if petrino leaves at the end of the season. i know there are unrealistic expectations in springfield but they have a division ii stadium with little fan support already.
Keep in mind that the league is very unlikely to add all public schools. The league presidents have long maintained that a public/private split is very important. We will not go to 14 by adding four publics. I'm not sure that there are enough available private schools to pick from in order to maintain that mix, though.
@saluki-69 not a big fan of this but maybe oral for the private school to keep the mix.
Craving a McBride Special!
Stopped paying much attention to Loyola. Hope they have a great run this season so The Valley reaps the financial benefits, but outside of that The Valley scooped them up when they were a non-factor. We'll see if they can sustain the success. Honestly a little surprised the A-10 grabbed them with their 4,000 seat facility, but you make a couple of deep runs in the NCAA Tournament and maybe they can start thinking about an expansion. Considering DePaul's ineptitude, Chicagoland should be ripe to jump on the bandwagon for a good college basketball program.
