I want good players, don't care where they come from. You wouldn't take Ryan Hawkins on our team? Gaige Prim?

There are D 2 players that can contribute to teams at the D 1 level. Stephen Verplancken Jr. has done very well for SIU

@salukiworld Xavier Johnson looks good, but wouldn't he have to sit out a year?
PS- Our entire coaching staff is following him on twitter.

This is the George Mason version (there's also an Oklahoma version), he's only played at George Mason so he should be able to play next year, right?

6'10 Sophomore (listed as Freshman but 2nd year) from Las Vegas. Averaged 4.2 PPG and 2.8 RPG this year.
Watching the conference and NCAA tournament games really reinforces the fact that we really need to hit the transfer portal EXTREMELY HARD. We need at least 2 impactful transfers, probably more like 3. Next year is a critical year for our program. Hopefully we get good news this spring.

6'6 Sophomore from St. Paul, MN. Played 1 year at Northeastern and didn't play much but averaged 10.9 PPG at Indian Hills where SIU found JD Muila.

Of course some D-II transfers can pan out, but I would guess the bust rate on D-II kids moving up is probably higher than D-I transfers or even kids from high-level JUCO programs. And with all due respect to your example, Southern needs more talented guys than * EDITED *if the program is going to stop spinning its wheels.

"can contribute" is not good enough at this point. We already have plenty of can contribute guys. We need a couple of impact players.

Everyone agrees with that. And you can find an impact player anywhere. Some guys develop late or are under the radar or whatever. I think people are just saying they don't care where we find our impact guys
Some of SIU's better players the last 15 years or so have come from JUCO. Mamadou Seck, Jeff Early, Mike Rodriguez. Terry Roberts was just a MVC first teamer his first year out of JUCO. Gaige Prim has been one of the better players in the Valley out of JUCO.

I don't care where they come from either. It's really important to get these one or possibly two scholarships right.
