6’3 G averaged 16.6 PPG 5 APG & 4 RPG.
Today I learned that those stats are apparently mediocre. Even though he'd lead SIU in PPG and assists and finish second in rebounding
Couldn't agree more. Look at what this kid did against TOP competition:
Purdue: 14pts 5assts
St Mary's: 27pts 4assts
Gonzaga: 14pts 6assts
UCLA: 19pts 6assts
West Virginia: 16pts 5 assts
It would give us a sure 3rd versatile scorer to go along with Jones & Domask.
Maybe I should have said mediocre AND one year players. They are a waste of time.

Yeah, Rolan Roberts was a total waste of time. Who needed that Sweet 16 (which kicked off a six-year NCAA run) anyway?
I do agree you don't want to take too many one-year guys, but if there's an impact transfer who fits and can be a difference-maker, of course it makes sense.
Filewich has the ability to score so I understand why some might want him starting. But he's slow (at least in SIU's defensive switching schemes) and not very athletic. I love the kid, but the fact that he struggles to dunk at his size says a lot. Banks is a great team player but you shouldn't be starting ANY guard who shoots 20% from 3pt range. JD is certainly not the ideal 5 either, but his lack of scoring is surely exacerbated when on the floor with Banks and even Verplacken as he disappears for halves or even full games at times. Will one player take this team to the NCAA tourny ...almost assuredly not, but since they currently only have 1 scholly to give out, I think the majority of fans would agree a stud PG is the way to go.
I could be sold on Muila starting on a D1 contender with more scoring around him but I don’t buy it with Filewich. Filewich would almost need a great defensive forward next to him because I don’t think his scoring makes up for his lack of interior defense right now.
I’m getting real tired of saying this.
Calling out individual players and saying they are not D-1 caliber players is not allowed. If you want to bash players go to FB.
Spike this is your last warning.
I...didn't say that? Like at all?

As I recall Southern recruited him pretty hard out of high school. 6-5 wing from Chicago, put up some decent numbers for the Owls last year.

Think we were close to getting him but I believe there was a problem with SIU wanting AJ Staton-McCray more who ended up going to Samford last minute because of connections with an assistant coach there. I think he'd be a good get if they can mend fences.
Would take J.Williams in a heart beat. My guess is he thinking higher than the MVC and will end up at a power conference.

Starting off with my caveat in that I have not seen a single minute of film on this kid. Like the scoring (nearly 10pts per game over 2 seasons), like the defense (1.5 steals per game) but do not care for his very poor 3pt shooting (23% this past year) and only a 63% FT shooter. Having him and Jones on the floor at the same time at what should be your best FT shooting position, along with JD's near infamous FT shooting woes would concern me.
If SIU only has one scholarship, they better find a legit point guard that can hang onto the ball and direct the offense. That has been missing. In my opinion that's a HUGE gap in SIU's lineup. Way too many turnovers with this current team.

I’d be flabbergasted if at least one additional scholarship doesn’t open. It’s still early. As has been mentioned a time or 20, this roster isn’t one player away from getting to a championship level.

We'll see. I agree this team is more than one player away, but having a floor general is a necessity and a step in the right direction. Don't believe SIU takes a step forward without securing this player. Hope it happens.
