Unfortunately with this transfer portal BS I believe late signings will be the norm not the exception especially with late announcements of transfers
Of the top 200 transfers on EvanMiya, think I counted 43 are unsigned still.

I am sure there are still options out there, any idea how many SIU is in on ?

No idea, I haven't heard anything since the Newton news. Was just pointing out that there's still a decent amount of good players unsigned.
I remain very optimistic about Xavier coming in and starting at PG. I also am cautiously optimistic about Newton. Unfortunately, I don't believe either one of these guys is going to take this team to the next level. The staff really needs to make a splash with their remaining scholly. I still feel like this staff has a lot of room for improvement in the recruiting area. If and when this team starts winning, I expect that to change.
I’m not going to pretend to know what the staff is currently doing in terms of recruiting, but I will say this…if this is all we get going in to next season it will be a pretty disappointing offseason. Maybe they are more confident that some of these younger guys are going to be able to step up and contribute big minutes, but that’s a big gamble for me right now given the current landscape of the MVC (very winnable league next year). Win now and use that success to win the recruiting battles the following years.
There is still time to sign a contributor, but I’m growing more pessimistic by the day.
We're going to sign another player....probably two. Hopefully, they'll be difference-makers. But I'm not confident guessing at names because I'll probably be wrong! I also will say I don't think people realize what a good PG we signed. So, don't lose hope on next year just yet.
Joe Petrakis committed to Illinois State today and this article says he canceled visits to SIU and BYU. So sure doesn't sound like anything is lined up if SIU still has visits lined up (and they're getting canceled). Although something might be lined up and they're going after 2 players with Harvey maybe gone.
Petrakis made recruiting visits to Appalachian State and Southeast Missouri State, where former Kansas State assistant Brad Korn is the head coach. He canceled visits to Southern Illinois and BYU.
Four names from the transfer portal that are still available. There appears to be some SIU Twitter interest.

6'6 SG D2 East Central Univ. 11.1 ppg
Can’t find much online on him. This feels like a Ben Harvey is surely gone though. 3 years of eligibility left and pretty good scorer for a Freshman
Saluki fans are really going to like this kid. Athletic, long and can create and score. Great addition to the program. Season ticket mailings go out some time next week I believe. Betting sales are going to increase. GO DAWGS!
I hear Spike bought a couple season ticket packages after this news
35% from 3, almost 80% from FT line.

James Madison
mature young man, athletic player, can really defend. as long as bryan likes him, good enough for me.
Guess we have to hope he's a late-bloomer/diamond in the rough ... certainly not a high-profile kid, and very much seems like the kind of recruit you take after missing on several more established targets.
Hard to imagine a kid who averaged 11 ppg at the D2 level coming in and playing a major role for an MVC contender next year unless he's really a high-level defender, but maybe he eventually develops into a nice piece.
Looks like the path to taking a big step next year, if that's going to happen, is going to have to come from the underclassmen (D'Amico, Wonders, Ebube, maybe Hornecker) showing they're ready to make a big impact.
