Anthony Ferguson ended his Houston high school career as stat leader in all 8 individual stats where a leader is noted. Mr Ferguson holds 19 of the 24 stat leader positions in his high schools basketball history. Very impressive!!

Anthony Ferguson high school mix tape.
Especially after the 2 most recent D2 players, it is hard for me to get overly excited about Ferguson, but the fact that he was the defensive player of the year in High School does bode well, especially at his size.
I'm starting to get excited.....this has happened every summer since Mullins took over and, unfortunately, it hasn't worked out the first 3 years but I think this will at least be the best team this staff has put together yet.

Nothing against Ferguson but his high school opened in 2016

Hahahahaha! Good catch!
(Inflammatory political snark)
Regarding D2 players, I would respectfully submit that we are in a better place than we were in the first couple of years under Mullins. Recruiting players is a long term process, and in my opinion we can now afford to be more selective. Ferguson is a perfect fit for the Mullins checklist, an athletic 6-6 player who loves to defend AND is, of course, a good kid. In Mullins I trust.

I understand some of the guarded feelings when it comes to D2 transfers but they are no different than any other recruit from any level you don't know for sure what they will be until we see them on game day fact is recruiting is a gamble even 5 stars at the blue bloods sometimes doesn't pan out and walk on or 1 star becomes all conference you just never know
@jabman62 To me, our biggest disappointments have been the players that have come from bigger conferences. Suggs from Missouri had little impact (aside from a now famous pass to Domask), and the guy from Nebraska who was so unremarkable I cannot even recall his name.

Hard not to like Big C. I’m with BM, his best basketball days are ahead of him. He tough, plays with passion and wants to prove he belongs in D1 basketball.
Funny that he would describe himself as a "dawg", I was watching some film of him early this morning and thinking how he reminds me of a junkyard dog type of player, nothing pretty, but tough as nails. He is really going to change the dynamic of this team.

From his highlights, it looks like he has the body of a short center, but the finesse of a power forward. I think he immediately become the best passing big man we've had in a long time, which is nice when your scoring punch is mostly on the wings.
I don’t know how much of an impact Ferguson will have, if he gets many minutes at all. Seems like a developmental piece to me that might not get any minutes at all next year. Could be completely wrong though.
You’d love to have 13 amazing players on scholarship but that’s so unrealistic because everyone wants their minutes. Ferguson seems like a project but he has the size and athleticism we’ve been looking for.
Rotation is probably looking like this:
PG: Johnson, Newton, Banks
SG: Jones, Brown, Wonders, Banks
SF: Domask, D’Amico, Ferguson Jr
PF: Muila/Ebube, D’Amico
C: Rupert, Muila/Ebube/Hornecker
Not sure who starts at the 4 right now. Muila and Rupert seem very similar so if Ebube is ready, I wouldn’t be shocked if he started.
Going to be interesting to see how the guard rotation shakes out. The Newton addition seems like it’s going to take minutes from Dalton Banks and one of Banks, Trent Brown, and Foster Wonders is going to be an odd man out at the 2 guard. Given how much Mullins loves Brown, I’d imagine he gets a good amount of minutes. Really hope his back holds up and he can hit 3’s with consistency.
I think this team is better than last year just based on improvements that will come from within but I worry a lot about the offense again. I think Xavier Johnson will make the offense better but Newton was really the only scoring addition this offseason, Johnson is more of a facilitator.
It will be interesting to see how the minutes shake out. If Rupert predominately plays the 5, it will be interesting to see who plays and who sits. That would be 4 centers with Muila, Ebube, Horecker and Rupert. My hope is that Rupert is able to play some at the 4. I would love to have more depth at the 4 so Domask can play most of his minutes at the 3. I think D'Amico is going to be a good 4 for us, but if we have 4 centers and only 1 PF, some folks are going to be very unhappy with their playing time.
Here's my hope with the depth chart for next season. This would be contingent upon Ebube having developed significantly during his redshirt year and over the summer:
PG - Johnson, Banks
SG - Jones, Newton, Brown
SF - Domask, Wonders, Ferguson
PF - Rupert, D'Amico
C - Ebube, Rupert, Muila, Horecker(potential redshirt)
If Ebube still isn't ready for significant minutes I can see a starting lineup of Johnson, Jones, Domask, D'Amico and Rupert.

Surely there will always be exceptions but 99.9% of the time a random team of 5 star recruits will beat the snot out of a random team of walk-ons.
