Even though we got a commit from Williams I hope there is an open competition for starting QB. He was a dual threat when he entered college, but since his knee injury 2 years ago he isn't nearly as much of a threat to run. He has a big arm, but he needs become more accurate. One good thing though, he is 6'3" tall. This makes the 3 top QB's coming into spring all 6'3" tall. Maybe we will throw over the middle once in awhile!

This is a huge get with Elliott graduating. Beat out Youngstown and Missouri State to get him.

@resaluki-88 This may be the tallest QB room ever at SIU. Lots of 6’3 kids.
Williams not as dual threat as I’d hoped. Looks like just under 2 yards per carry.

Agreed. With an increase in enrollment, enthusiasm locally about SIU from high schools, and recent success in football, it's really nice to see a big increase in talented local kids staying home and a trickling effect into football. This could be a nice catalyst for more.

I thin Bucky asked that question during Hill’s press conference. He didn’t come out and say “open competition”, but his answer  pretty much implied that. Said something to the effect of if you don’t like competition you are on the wrong team…just because you were a starter last year doesn’t guarantee your spot, etc.

@cosmos Truly appreciate the positive mind set. There is certainly a correlation between championship caliber sport teams, and increased student enrollment. The City of Carbondale needs to be involved with the potential turn around as well IMO. They are taking those steps it appears.

In my opinion southern Illinois doesn’t necessarily appreciate SIU as much as they should.  From an economic perspective and from a cultural perspective, in addition to a really good educational hub, southern Illinois goes as SIU goes.

Love seeing these commitments coming in.  Sounds like Hill and staff have done a nice job on the recruiting front.  Kudos!

blurb on all the new signees - 14 freshmen and 8 transfers - sounds like a good group - glad to see we grabbed a couple of RBs and WRs.  None of the WRs are over 6'.

Have been out of the country for a few weeks and have just started catching up on the signing class.

Listened to part of the Dawgs Football podcast yesterday and they were very positive about it. A couple guys I remember them highlighting were Parker Getter (OT), Karsen Konkel (TE), and ET Harris (QB).

I’m in the process of researching everyone, but yes, this appears like a strong class. Hill and staff continue to bring in talent - and high character guys, from what I can tell - to the program. I’m excited for the next few years.

Also, I want to give props to the SIU sports media people who have put out the material on the commits. It’s high quality stuff. Better than most other FCS programs that I come across on social media.

The one thing that stands out for me is the size of this class seems much bigger than year's past.  I feel like you can talk yourself into even the worst class maybe being good one day but this class feels different to me.
