That’s a wrap. We have our 2023-24 Salukis.

Supporter of the Fab 4: Scottie Ebube, Foster Wonders, AJ Ferguson & Cade Hornecker.

They’re the ones that can get us where we haven’t been in 15 years.

BartTovik puts SIU at #161 overall and 6th in the MVC when you add McGee, they were 8th before McGee

Just curious, if this McGee moves SIU up 2 spots in the standings, wouldn’t that make him a difference-maker?

The reality is that the people who were using rankings based on assigned points to the roster were just pointing out the obvious because of course you'd be ranked low when the roster isn't full.

It had Murray State, Belmont, and SIU bunched up together (169, 173, 174).  This bumps SIU up 13 spots.

With the portal transfers and incoming freshman we made huge improvements regarding our size and athleticism. We really needed improvements in both those areas. However, we better have some scorers emerge from guys who didn't score much previously. On paper we should be very good defensively again.

Yes, we will look pretty good in warmups and walking through airports, and now have solid depth at all the various positions. Good size and athleticism.

Mostly going to be about whether enough scoring will materialize. It will take multiple guys exceeding their past track records.

It'll be nice to have some size.  I do worry about the scoring, especially at the end of games.  I don't think you need to have 2 guys dominate possessions and shots like SIU has had with Domask and Jones but you really need 1 or 2 go-to guys at the end of games to bring you home to victory.  Not sure who those guys are on this team yet.

I like the addition. Probably about as good as we could hope for this late in the game.

Like the roster and believe multiple scoring options help with consistency and makes you harder to defend Drake comes to mind their scoring came from multiple players depending who was hot never liked 1or 2 guys dominate the ball especially when they average 14 points a game not 20 ar above

Drake still had 2 go to guys in DeVries and Penn. As of right now we do not have anyone like that. Although, I believe Johnson can score more if he wants too and will probably have a bigger late game role with the absence of Domask and Jones.

Agree and with similar posts above. Anecdotal observations from last year:  most of the offense was run through or by Domask and Jones IMHO. So that was understandable, subsequently it seemed to me, that other potential scorers were either timid, dare I say afraid, or discouraged from shooting. Yeah, occasionally BM would use Rupert or Ebube to go down low, but not often enough for me.

Really like the multiple scoring athletic options (large and small) available to us now and hope they are used and results in more scoring. And likewise, assuming our defense remains strong. Also not concerned about a player's "flat" shot or style of shooting as long as the dang ball goes through the hoop.

March on triumphantly!
