Final

SIU 63

TREES 64

We rallied from 23 down. At least we showed some fight in the 4th. Randle with a 22 & 15 double. Poor Mason. She missed a bunch of wide open shots. She hits just one of the 21 shots she missed we win.

We barely crack 30% shooting at 30.7%.

GAME 17 – Sunday 1/21

Banterra Center 2:00pm

Evansville 2-15(0-6) at SIU 6-10(1-5)

Media: Streaming Audio - Varsity Sports Network

or Radio WJPF 107.9 (Larry Larson)

Video Streaming: ESPN+

WarrenNolan.com Prediction:

Line: Salukis -18   O/U: 140

NET/RPI/SOS

Aces: 343/343/277

SIU: 193/273/202

UE/SIU Series At A Glance: This is the 69th meeting between us and the Aces. We lead the series 40-28 and have won 16 of the last twenty and 12 in a row. We pasted Evansville on Senior Day last year 105-59. That was the day where Promise Taylor posted the only triple-double in SIU history.

The Purple Aces Dramatis Personae: The Aces lost a few players including former Valley freshman of the year Abby Fiet. They are pretty young as they only have one senior, five juniors, two sophomores and four freshmen. They are led in scoring by 5-8 sophomore guard, Kynidi Mason Striverson and her 13.9ppg and 3.8 assists per game. Maggie Hartwig a 6-1 freshman forward is their only other double-digit scorer at 11ppg. Their top rebounder is 6-3 graduate student Barbona Tomancova.

Tale Of The Tape:

Aces                    SIU

64.1       PPG        65.0

84.2        PA          67.7

.346       FG%       .377

.474      FG%D     .441

.281      3Pt %      .287

.310     3Pt%D     .295

.703        FT          .684

36.9      REB         36.9

42.9     REB D      37.4

12.0     Assists     13.6

19.6       T/O        17.2

11.4       T/O        20.8

            Forced

11.4     Pts Off     17.3

             T/O

5.9        Steals     11.6

2.4        Blocks     2.9

The Aces are pretty woeful. In Valley terms they are 10th in offense. Last in FG%, FG% defense, rebounds allowed and 11th in turnovers. Oddly enough, they are 13th nationally in pace of play. Offensive rating they are 307th with 80pts per 100 possessions. Defensively they are 350th with 105.8 points allowed per 100 possessions. The Aces are 333rd in effective field goal percentage at 39.2%

What’s Up With Us? Another game, another head scratching result against a Valley cellar dweller. At least we didn’t just roll over against Indy St. after we got down by 22 in the second half. We out scored the Trees 21-9 in the 4th quarter and almost pulled off a comeback. Randle, Love and Hughes were all in double figure scoring. Randle posted her sixth double-double of the season and leads the Valley in conference games in scoring and is 3rd in all games. Jaidynn Mason had a really rough shooting night, 2 of 23, but set a career high in steals with seven and had some impressive assists. This poor kid has been through a lot, she’ll come out of this and have a big game soon. This team’s overall FG% has taken a nosedive since the start of conference play. In conference games we are last in FG% at 30.6 percent. We’ve only been over 40% once - against Valpo. Listening to coach’s presser after the Indy St. game it kinda sounds like her grip on the locker room is loosening. She kept talking about she wants fighters on the court and not kids who go running to mom and dad after a game. I have this sinking feeling that Shemera Williams is no longer with the team.

But – Evansville is not that good and we're due to get out of this shooting funk. A good start is a must. We may not blow them out or cover the line, but I say we win this one.

GO DAWGS!!!

Oh me of little faith...

I said we wouldn't blow them out OR cover the line. Egg on my face. Nothing better than to beat the shit out of someone to help with the sour taste of a downer of a season so far.

GAME 18 – Friday 1/26

CFSB Center 6:00pm

SIU 7-10(2-5) at Murray State 12-4(5-2)

Media: Streaming Audio - Varsity Sports Network

or Radio WJPF 107.9 (Larry Larson)

Video Streaming: ESPN+

WarrenNolan.com Prediction:

Line: Racers -12   O/U: 140

Quick Look At Murray: The Racers are tied with LSU as the highest scoring team in the country. All five starters average double figures. All of their players have seen action in every game. We lead the series 41-6 We went into Murray last year and won by eight, but got beat in Carbondale by fourteen.

The Racers Dramatis Personae: Their top three scorers - Forward Katelyn Young 18.8ppg. Ava Learn another forward 12.4ppg. And forward Hannah McKay 10.9ppg.

Tale Of The Tape:

MSU                    SIU

91.6       PPG        67.0

77.0        PA          67.2

.459       FG%       .387

.449      FG%D     .435

.345      3Pt %      .299

.359     3Pt%D     .292

.773        FT          .689

41.3      REB         37.4

36.9     REB D      37.2

17.6     Assists     14.5

14.5       T/O        16.8

19.3       T/O        20.8

            Forced

22.7     Pts Off     17.9

             T/O

10.0      Steals     11.9

2.0        Blocks     3.1

With the gaudy numbers that Murray puts out on offense and some decent defensive numbers, I fully expect this game to be a blowout. Especially after they got beat twice last weekend by a resurgent Northern Iowa -by 20- and Drake, who hung a hundred on them. They’re gonna be pissed. We went in there with a similar record last year and stole one so – you never know.

GO DAWGS!!!

Lord, have mercy on us tonight....

After the relatively low scoring affair between South Carolina and LSU last night, a 76-70 SC win. Murray State is now the highest scoring team in women's DI ball at 91.6 ppg.

Tied it with a minute to play In back to back 3's by Clubb. Then Young hits a 3 than Randle flubs a pass and Murray scores. Down 5 with 38 seconds left.
