It changed for me and I personally like it
Phil Steele came out with his preseason FCS All-American and All-MVFC picks https://philsteele.com/%ef%bf%bcphil-steeles-2022-preseason-fcs-all-american-and-all-conference-teams/
FCS All-American: No first teams dawgs. Avante Cox receiving and Jacob Garret as a full back on second team offense. Javon Williams fourth team special teams as an all purpose player.
His picks are dominated with Dakota schools.
MVFC All-Conference: Avante Cox first team in the receiving corp. Second team running backs Javon Williams and Jacob Garret. Second team defense has PJ Jules defensive back. Javon Williams second team as an all purpose player on special teams.
Third team defense has Clayton Bush from the secondary and Javon Williams as a punt returner.
Fourth team has Nic Baker at qb. Defense has Richie Hagarty and Makel Calhoun.
As you would expect, the Dakota schools dominate this list too.
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!
Any updates on camp?
The SIU Football twitter account has been posting some fun videos
https://siusalukis.com/news/2022/8/7/football-mic-d-up-with-head-coach-nick-hill.aspx
Whereas we used to get a written report on SIUSALUKIS.com with a mention of a few players or groups and how they're doing, now we get a video with a few comments by the HC. Not so many years ago, we got a daily written report, which was just great.
The video's fine and fun to watch and obviously easy for the sports info people - take a bunch of vid, have the GA edit it down to some soundbites, but that written report was a heckuva lot more informative to fans. I miss detailed reporting on football - how players and groups are doing. Hope that shows up. GO DAWGS!

If there was only some entity that could cover something like that, maybe a local newspaper/journalist with some motivation. Oh well, maybe the next beat writer will figure it out.

The lack of coverage is embarrassing. This is a top 10 program in the FCS.
I saw where SIU hired a new SID for WBB and golf, and he appears to be pretty active on Twitter (LINK). Where's the SID for football?
I'd kill to have a beat writer like Wyatt Wheeler at the Springfield News.
what we need is something like "hard knocks, saluki style."

Can't remember exactly when, but some years back, the preseason football coverage was terrific....daily written reports. Now it appears to have devolved into a short vid.
As far as the local newspaper, they were bought by Lee Enterprises, a large media corp. The paper is no longer printed in C'dale - it's printed in St. Louis. Must have an early deadline. I don't expect great coverage from them.
Nick Hill interview:

Javon Williams interview:
According to Bucky Dent, Avante might miss our opener with a hand injury and Hartrup is battling a hamstring problem. Really testing the depth at that position if both of those guys can’t play.

Think Cox is gonna be out much longer than the opener. But at least there’s some reporting on the team now.
IMO, Cox is the one guy this team couldn’t afford to lose. I was already concerned about the WR depth even with him.

Sounds like the offense got owned by the D at the scrimmage today. There were a few people out on offense (2 linemen, Cox, J. Williams, Hartrup, J. Strong), but 0 points and 0 big plays doesn't show well.
Don't know if I should feel good about the D or worried about the offense...maybe a bit of both.
