Phoenix Cycle for sale - not going out of business - owner wants to sell the business and retire.
Does anyone know the current status of the new transportation center? Was curious as to the progress. I have heard demolition of particular buildings along that stretch of road/downtown area has commenced. Expecting the ribbon cutting ceremony to take place soon. Going to be an excellent addition for Carbondale, and southern illinois region.
For those folks interested. Received some information today that construction on the new transportation center has indeed commenced. The ribbon ceremony will take place this coming Friday @ 3:00 for those interested in attending.
there's a construction trailer on site and yesterday a bulldozer was leveling up the site
Also they finally fixed that rough-as-a-cob railroad crossing on 13 east and now doing 13 west.
Ulta Beauty putting up a sign in the old Best Buy, drive thru Burger King construction working at night - their motto is "whoppers can't wait".
Lot's of Thompson Pt dorms torn up - windows gone - temporary OSB walls, etc.
Groundbreaking for Multi-modal transportation center took place yesterday. US Sens. Durbin and Duckworth were there. Amtrak is throwing in $3.5 million to the project. Projected completion date is 2025.

Refurb or tearing them down? I'd rather live there than in the potentially Tower(ing) Infernos.

Renovating a lot of stuff at the Point...the towers of fugliness can't go away too soon as far as I'm concerned, but sure looks like we'll have to live with them for years.
Buckle clothing store has a new space in University Place C'dale, opened today - used to be in the mall I think.
A new Harbor Freight next to T J Maxx has opened (used to be Party City).
Dairy Queen on the strip is officially reopened today as The Big Chill. Similar menu, different branding.

Went by there this evening. Temporary sign says Wazo's Big Chill. NEVER have seen that many people at the old Dairy Queen! Nice crowd.
Sucks to lose Dairy Queen and the history but it'd be cool to see another local business thrive in downtown Carbondale

It's the same menu but Wazo won't have to pay Dairy Queen a percentage of the profits. Win win for both him and Carbondale. Ends up being better than having a chain there.

Agree. I have no doubt Dairy Queen is wanting someone to pay their $1.4 million franchise fee and open one in C'dale, probably out by the mall area. They certainly didn't want an old fashioned DQ. Shame on them. I hope the Big Chill does great!
Heck I still miss Dog'nSuds foot longs and root beer floats. Last one I had was in Charleston years ago - long gone. I guess there's a few still around.
Glad for this creative solution to the DQ problem. My annual Homecoming trip would not have been the same without that stop!
