Today is the perfect day for a Hinson resignation funeral...it's been pissing  rain all day here in The Dale.

It all looked sad and Hinson did do a lot to put us right academically and morally, but after 7 years of mediocrity, he needed to go.

I have to hand it to him to fall on his sword, rather than be forced out kicking and screaming.

It was 4 years past due.

Go Dawgs!

I will give Hinson credit for one aspect of his coaching obligations; most of the players he recruited graduated.  Minimum obligation fulfilled.

I agree. After all the crap under CLOW, he completely eliminated arrests and bad grades causing suspensions.

He lost my support when he threw players under the bus early on, though he stopped that.

The fact that he had 6 seniors and some talent and got outcoached by Jake yesterday was the last straw though...

Look at the work Dana Ford has done and the new Drake coach and any fear of change should disappear into hope. Anybody who was here in Bryan Mullen’s years can easily see his hand in the great defense that Loyola plays. I want that smart tough HOFer on our bench next season. Hope BMULL is our coach in 19-20.

Time to move forward. Hinson was a serviceable placeholder in the two or three years after the Lowery debacle, but he is what he is. My hope is that SIU learns from this and, for once, doesn't repeat the type of long-term mistake it made with BH. I was in "anybody but Barry" mode for a long time, but I've tweaked that perspective a bit. Mullins would be an excellent hire, and I hope it happens because it would generate a lot of much-needed optimism and excitement. But if it doesn't happen for whatever reason, SIU simply cannot hire another coaching retread with little or no history of reaching postseason tournaments.

I lean toward Mullins as well.  We had CLO ....he could recruit but that was it.  BH was an average coach as his slightly above 7yr record here shows.  He couldn't recruit...Period.  Our best recruits had ties with coaching hires.  Now a days recruits are smart enough and have ample resources to search out any coach that is recruiting him and find out if he has a winning pedigree.  BH hadn't even won a conf championship.  The better and best recruits want to play for coaches that can win.  In Mullins case recruits would have to jump on board with his passion and knowledge and history of being a WINNER and give him a chance as you would with any young coach who is just starting out.   I say lets go get BMULL !!

Fuck Barry Hinson and the horse the son of a bitch rode in on.  I’m so happy that after seven years of his drama and other assorted Hinson bullshit that his ass is gone.  Now Kill needs to go get Mullins and the rebuild can shift into high gear.

I almost felt bad for him

I don't.  Good riddance to bad rubbish.  I'm glad I was wrong about him dying of old age  in that position.

This program is not in worse shape than when he took over.  Some people have a very short memory.  This is not a defense of the guy who resigned yesterday.  Just a fact.  Just like it is a fact that Jerry Kill sued us.

So I'm gone for a couple of years and come back to find this. Sad to say it's hard to work up any enthusiasm for anything SIU, especially since enrollment continues to tank and the whole state seems to be going down bow first like the Titanic. Can't help but wonder if the university isn't just another deck chair.  I'll check back later, maybe....

Well, Hinson had plenty of opportunities, way more than most coaches would get. Even in the end I thought for sure he would win this tournament.  It was there for the taking with Drake's depleted roster and Bradley winning. But for some reason BH could never win the big games, amazing he couldn't even luck into one in 16 tries

JFC, people! No one here--well, maybe a few people, but certainly not me and DEFINITELY not Barkeep--needs to be schooled on how mediocre BH was, what a Huckster he was, or how, ultimately, he wasn't good for the SIU basketball program. We're just expressing sympathy for a fellow human being, for CRYING out loud. Doing so is NOT intended to be a defense of his tenure here or even of him personally. I can't stand the little bastard, frankly, but I can manage to find a teaspoonful of sympathy for a fellow human being, however much he brought his own misery upon himself. I feel pretty safe in saying that is all the sympathy we are talking about here. If you can't muster that up, OK, fine: I get it. But quit assuming there is something we're not getting just because we have the ability to empathize with someone going through something crappy.

Annoying AF.

You really think Barkeep needs to be schooled on how much BH sucked as a coach?

(Inflammatory political snark)

What are you missing? Did you listen to his interview?

."If you quote me on one thing, I'd like you to quote me on this — I am so sorry that we couldn't get back to the Tournament. It's haunted me my entire life. But I'm a man of faith. My dad taught me a long time ago, 'I know not what my future holds, but I know Who holds my future," Hinson said

https://siusalukis.com/news/2019/3/9/mens-basketball-season-ends-with-mvc-quarterfinal-loss-to-uni.aspx

He basically said his fate was not decided by his decisions and actions, his fate was decided by "...I know Who holds my future."  He is not responsible for anything! This was written by the hand of fate!

The past 7 years were written by the hand of fate!

And as to"... I am so sorry that we couldn't get back to the Tournament." He has never been to the tournament!
