Ok let’s here it.
how many teams ? 2 4 6 ?
which teams? Murray, Belmont, Northern KY, Milwaukee, Dallas Baptist( yes that is a possibility), oral Robert’s, a different Texas team?
my personal choice is no expansion but I don’t really have a vote

I'd like Murray and Belmont. However, if we must add UT Arlington, I'd go Murray, Belmont, UT Arlington, Northern Kentucky (or Milwaukee).
Please tell me why we need to expand. “Because everyone else is doing it” is not a good reason. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. Murray State is desperate to get out of the OVC, that’s their problem.
PS- SIU and Murray compete for some of the same students, why do we want to help them by elevating their status?

I think if they want to expand my choices would be Belmont and Milwaukee.

I agree with this No need to expand but we all know it is coming

Would we be elevating their status in the eyes of potential students? Most 18 year old kids see this...Murray is in the NCAA tournament and SIU is not. It might help us to see their program lose 10-12 games a year instead of 5-7.
Also...A lot of people complain about Valley schools, including ours, scheduling non D1 teams to fill out our home schedule. Imagine replacing some crap school we have to pay to come here with a home game against Murray State. Better strength of schedule AND more fans for that game. Not to mention that there are a lot of local people, including perspective students could be at that game.

We have been playing Murray almost every year anyway. For the record they were 11-13 last year against D1 programs. Records don't mean a whole lot depending on who you are playing. The OVC is not exactly a powerhouse basketball conference.

Murray had an unusually down year last year but they've been to the NCAA's 4 times since 2010 and the 2nd round three times in that span. That's a lot more than most current Valley teams outside of Loyola can say.

Right...but it is home this year, away next year. And so on...This way, we would get a home and away game against them every year. Also, aside from last season, their record is usually pretty dang impressive. Listed below are the 8 seasons they had 20+ win seasons.
2010-2011: 23-9
2011-2012: 31-2
2012-2013: 21-10
2013-2014: 23-11
2014-2015: 29-6
2017-2018: 26-6
2018-2019: 28-5
2019-2020: 23-9
And most importantly, they've gotten NCAA tournament appearances because of their crappy competition for the auto-bid. My point is that they will get beaten down in the MVC like the rest of us, and probably won't have the appearance of a better basketball program than us. I bet if you ask 18 year old kids around here which school is known for their basketball, they'd say Murray State. That may not be the case if they're in the MVC and losing games like everyone else. They certainly won't win 20 games in 8 of the next 11 seasons.
I know we've talked about this several times over the past few years, but just wanted to say this again. Murray State and Belmont will be great additions.
Case for Murray - Will be able to step in and compete right away. They have a pretty solid vs. MVC record the past couple of years in almost all sports. They also announced plans to upgrade almost all of their athletic facilities over the next couple of years. Only issue holding them back is football. Will the OVC allow them to be an affiliated member if they move Basketball and other sports to the MVC?
Case for Belmont: They have fantastic facilities, a nice niche media market in Nashville, and their Women's basketball team is probably better then their Men's team that's already really good. Baseball team went 4-0 against MVC opponents in 2020 before the season stopped.
However if the Valley continues this stupid trend of raiding the Horizon League, it better be Northern Kentucky. Great facilities, and a growing fan base outside of Cincinnati.

Hearing big news coming out of the Valley soon on this front. Excited for new blood.
If Belmont is leaving you would think that Murray is looking too. It'll be interesting to see if they go ahead and add one more. I think this is a pretty good add.
