@siu-alum-05

yes very good stats. But Wright State stats.
old adage I hear often. Coaches don’t play or shoot.
Players do. So hopefully he recruits them to SIU like he did to WSU.

This is true.  However, a good coach can develop and and teach an offense that places players in a position to take good, clear shots.

Horizon League stats. Do not forget, that is a much weaker league than the MVC.

NET ratings:  MVC - 10,  Horizon - 20

Read Mike Reis tweet today about Trent Brown wanting to be a coach, wonder if Nagy has considered giving him an interview. Might help with bringing a few guys back.

Trent Brown is the ultimate Mullins loyalist so I’d file that in the long shot category.

Hopefully Howard’s retention helps with a few of those guys.

He very likely is, but Mullins isn't a head coach and isn't the decision maker on who joins DePauls staff.  I am certainly not saying that Brown wouldn't be hired there., but I also wouldn't be shocked if he also someday joins the SIU staff.

I didn’t mean to imply Trent will end up at DePaul, just that it seems unlikely he would stay to coach at Southern after his guy was somewhat controversially fired. Stranger things have happened, but I wouldn’t bet on that.

We weren’t great this year but had a higher NET ranking than any team in the Horizon league. Not that’s the end all be all of basketball analysis. You’ve also said that John A would’ve beat our teams with Marcus and Lance.

You certainly have some…interesting…opinions.

Bryan’s wife commented in a Facebook group that has me concerned. Jerrance Howard’s retention was posted and someone commented how it was an Austin Lane decision and that his eyes and ears are in the locker room and how Howard didn’t help Bryan.

His wife said “people are clueless as to what really went down here. It’s a shame“ then proceeded to say, “the sad thing was two individuals who could care less about the university, community, and program are running the show. We have found comfort in knowing we are moving on from people of extremely poor character, morals, and values.”

I have said in this forum before that current and former athletics employees talk about how much of a mess that department is and how high the turnover is. And they have said from the beginning that they didn’t like the chancellor in athletics. I have also not heard great things about Leonard from the employees. Those things and her comments are alarming. I hope they get that department figured out.

im not I think she just sounds like an angry wife of someone who should have had a cushy job. Husband is a hall of famer at the school he was hired at making 500k a year. He never really fully learned on the job. Yeah the school has major issues but he was fired 100 percent because his lack of coaching skills. Jerrance Howard has always been known as a great recruiting. It’s weird how he gets to siu and can’t recruit.  Almost like he’s held back by a coach who wants to coach in a way that no one wants to play in. Now we’re just getting the angry rants of a person who’s life is changed

I would agree if I wasn’t hearing the same things from people on the inside.

@14_alumdawg what if they made him keep Howard because they knew he was screwed with Bryan and wanted to actually use his skills?

take it for what’s it’s worth.  Believe what you want. But there are people in the athletic department both employees and coaches and ex- coaches that were not happy about how the releasing of Mullins went. Again we all have opinions on what went on.  There is some truth in what has been said by certain people. I will leave it at that.

Yeah and I'm sure we have a few seniors who aren't happy about how their senior nights went because of Bryan. Feels like a lot of things weren't handled well in general the last few weeks. Both sides need to move on. Ready to start hearing names of possible recruits so we have something new to talk about lol

Wow. I EXPECTED her to say something like "we know how lucky we were to work here for 5 years and make three times what the average college grad makes in a lifetime all the while delivering mediocre results. Thank you for hiring an inexperienced coach.  On to the Big East, where everyone is of extremely high moral character."  🙂
