Kill screwed Tommy without lube and put SIU fans through another year of agony for profit. I still have no clue how people still support him. He was good football coach. He is also an egomaniac Power hungry greedy selfish snake in the grass weasel.

Tommy Bell was a horrible athletic director and Jerry Kill raised more money for SIU athletics than anyone in recent history. That is not only my opinion, but the opinion of quite a few folks who were directly involved at the time. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. That is mine. I will not reply to comments or get in a flame war, but that was the prevailing thought for most folks who were directly involved at the time.

Last thing I'll say. Not only did Jerry Kill raise more money in his short tenure as athletic director, but he also made some outstanding coaching hires.

you are entitled to your own opinion but not your own FACTS.

kill left SIU with crippling debt.

kill sued SIU

three of kill's hires have the potential to sink the department

if he was the savior why did he get helped out of town?

i'll take ethics and integrity over the money if he actually raised all that money.

all that money he alleged raised will be spent on legal fees defending us against allegations against his 'outstanding' hires.

@boobys Not going to get in a flame war, but you are very wrong in most of your analysis. Kill sued SIU for approximately $50k (his contract)when he left for Northern Illinois, many years ago. That was settled and Kill was welcomed back with open arms. He was a great ambassador for SIU and a great fundraiser. SIU has not spent the money he raised on legal fees defending his hires. Get your facts straight before espousing BS. Again, that is all, and I will no longer comment or get in a flame war.

I totally agree with this. I liked Kill until he did this to SIU, SIU fans, and Tommy Bell and his family.

With all due respect, the balance sheets are all open knowledge, findable on the SIU budgetary website. They went south under Kill. Sure, he may have technically raised more money, and that was due to the Banterra deal he almost killed, but the spending far outraced that. What good is it to have higher income when expenses far outrace that income?

Again I say with all due respect.

What a train wreck.

My thoughts exactly. Can this university take a step forward without taking two steps back?

No wonder people I know who graduated from SIU actively encourage their children to go anywhere else. 😖

Hmmm...

https://twitter.com/Coachcstein/status/1436156707739156481

she sure nailed it!

this tweet actually bring another question. we assume it is about scandal.  if it is, what did she know and when did she know it?

I wouldn't look that far into it. I'm assuming she's defending people saying the public thinks they know everything but they don't. If she "knew" something she would never tweet this, or else she could get in trouble.

At a previous school, the compliance guy had been able to secure financial aid advances for athletes in need. Buffalo would not do that, so he loaned them money. This wasn't an "Illini" slush fund. The NCAA is a bunch of moralistic hypocrites. (especially now that athletes are treated like citizens and can make money)

In the statement in the Southern on the new budget, it mentions a $3mill cut in each of the next three years. "

https://thesouthern.com/news/local/siu/353-million-budget-includes-2-salary-raises-for-siuc-employees/article_0df25ada-8396-5a93-ad49-e03fd5434fa7.html#tracking-source=featured-homepage

SIUC's Interim Executive Director for Finance: Julie McReynolds:

Additionally, McReynolds said a decrease in revenue for athletics from the pandemic – almost $4.3 million – leading to Saluki Athletics adopting an approach to address financial challenges.

“This includes a three-phased approach at reducing expenses by $3 million each year for three years,” she said.

no need for a flame war. back up your assertions with facts, not simply innuendo.  i can read annual reports and spreadsheets. the numbers just don't support your assertions.  show us all if they actually do.  it's public record.

we received a show cause order from the ncaa.of course we are spending money defending this mess.  there are active investigations of 2 programs.  we are spending money he raised.

please defend your assertions if you can with more than just "he was a great fundraiser". the data is there and verifiable. either it they bear witness to you claims or don't.

don't tuck tail and expect to run and hide by saying you aren't going to comment any more. it's not flaming to say you are not entitled to your own facts.  and then you flame me calling it bs.  be an adult and point us to the numbers that show kill to head and shoulders better at fundraising than jarnigan, bell or mochia.

then explain the massive debt.

we are all waiting.

@fraydog Not sure what " donors" you are talking about. The other question is are other departments also being cut to the same degree based on alleged profitability? And lastly I completely agree all the allegations need to be investigated to their conclusion and punishment doled out appropriately.

However, don't forget something else when it comes to funding. When enrollment is falling or stagnant cutting athletics budget drastically is like a company cutting its promotion and advertising budget when sales drop.

Might be true at a Big 10 school. Not sure that athletics here has much to do with enrollment.
