Does anybody remember When Jerry Jones and Rick Shipley played together. I sat in section A underneath the basket and watched Ship and Jones pinball any offensive player who dared to come come under the basket. I believe Ship was 6'8 and Jerry was around 6'6. I am guessing late 80s. Neither were true bigs but they got the job done.
I sure do. Jones was listed at 6'6" but the guy was a beast. Built like a tank.
I remember seeing him occasionally walking around campus cradling his newborn. It was quite a contrast!
Don't forget 6'8 Ashraf Amaya also played with those guys. That was a lot of beef under the basket then. We were probably the best rebounding team in the Valley from 89-94 and did it with what were considered back then as undersized post players.
Remember when Amaya was officially measured by the NBA and he turned out to be 6 ft 6 and a half inches not 6 ft 8 Hell of a rebounder for that size.
These young men and their families sat in front of us at the game last night. They were totally impressed with the crowd size and the enthusiasm that came with it.
Probably couldn't have picked a better game to attend this season.
Is this one of the Hazelwood Central kids who visited on Saturday? 😮

The kid is #10 Cole Farrell and one of those in attendance on Saturday.

Looks like he used to play for Kent Williams at DeSmet.
Looking more at Hazelwood Central, all 3 of these kids have some talent. Seem to be well coached and they all play fast and above the rim.

I read "athleticism" and "defense" and started dreaming of Floorburn U.

Hazelwood Central is one of the perennial basketball programs in the St. Louis metro area. They also have one of the best freshman in Missouri, Jayden Nicholson.
Can confirm that we have checked in on the following players
2021 6'7 F Shaun Riley - Ofallon, IL
2021 6'6 F Quani Rudd - Mt. Vernon, IL
Both play for Gateway Jets AAU out of the metro east. Always nice to have local kids competing for spots.
