Will be somewhat surprised if he keeps Clancy. Also doubt Smithpeters gets the job.

Then you'll be double surprised.

Well Apparently not gonna be surprised. :)

Let's wait and see how things shake out.  I guarantee they were both very much in the mix a week ago.

IMO, the only coach that had a shot at being retained was Beane, and a large factor in his consideration would've been how much Bryan likes the Beane cousins and gauging how close their interests in staying/leaving are tied to AB Sr.

I don't think it's a good reason to keep a coach around, but it's human nature to think that way. Bryan's tenure here is so much larger than the impact of a couple of players over the next 3 to 4 years. I'd like to see Darius and Jimmy stay and be a part of the revival of this proud program, but not at the expense of Bryan filling out his staff exactly as he wants to. I'm almost certain he wants as little to do with the previous coaching regime as possible.

This is rational, thoughtful, well put and  an example of why I like to read Saluki Insider.  While I've never seen them play, they probably could make an immediate impact on the program but in the long run, the right staff establishing Coach Mullins' basketball culture is the real goal here.   Players come and go and can be recruited by our coaching staff and coached up to where the coaches need them to be.  Let's trust the evolving coaching staff and let them do what they need to do.  Coach Mullins was and is the right choice.  By the way how did the Bobber get convinced to return?   Having his work on Saluki Insider is much appreciated.  I will get back to the Midwest this coming season and see at least a couple of games.

WOOF!

I can't speak for the Bobber, but I'm guessing we'll see quite a few former regulars on here emerging from Hinson hibernation.

Sounds as if a purge might be coming. Hate to see promising young players leave, but these things happen when a culture needs to be changed. I trust Bryan Mullins and the process.

I would expect us to now recruit over the current players.  If they want to stay, then that's fine.

I agree.  I am also going to take a wait and see stance in regards to Darius and Jimmy.  If AB Sr. is not retained at SIU, there is always a chance he may take a head coach position at a lower D 2 or D 3 school.  I am sure Darius and Jimmy would want to stay at the D 1 level at SIU instead of dropping divisions to play for AB Sr.  If Kyle Smithpeters name keeps coming up as joining Bryan at SIU, John A. Logan will be searching for a new head coach.   AB Sr. may be interested in filling that position for a certain SIU connected Athletic Director at John A.  I am sure at that point Darius and Jimmy would want to continue as Saluki's.   So I am just going to wait and see how the tide turns and hope for the best.  There are a lot of twists that could occur.

The staff has been picked and no one is being retained, Smithpeters isn’t on the staff . We will also have at least 5 open scholarships, Bryan and his staff have their work cut out for them . It certainly won’t be a quick fix.

That isn't all bad.  The faster the turnover, the faster the turnaround.  Bring in enough recruits to fill the squad and redshirt a couple prospects for class balance.

Interesting ... looking forward to hearing some names.

Hopefully there’s no hard feelings with Smithpeters, but it’s not like Southern has gotten many players from Logan historically, anyways.

Let's just say it was a fact that neither of the Beanes would have been playing for Southern next year no matter the coaching situation.
