Was wondering if SIU was looking at Mamon as an option if he was willing to come back. I think it greatly helps their chances of keeping Kennard Davis now because he was the lead recruiter there. Either way, Mamon honestly might be an upgrade over whatever Howard was doing.
Great new ! Jevon is staying. Still feel his best recruiting days are ahead of him.
Good, quick reaction to the Howard situation. I like this for multiple reasons.

Wow good decisions all around here. Hopeful 🙂
I was half-wondering when Howard left if he'd pivot to Mamon for continuity purposes, assuming Nagy didn't have an ace up his sleeve for the last spot, but wasn't sure if it would be too weird after it looked initially like Mamon had been let go. I'm onboard like others for various reasons, and hope it helps keep some of the current roster intact.
Mamon and Hawkins are both very likeable dudes. Should be an easy staff to root for (as Mullins' was), which I'm happy about. Now, time to navigate the treacherous recruiting/retention waters for Valley schools, circa 2024.

We have it in the 2024 recruiting thread since it’s technically a high school add

@dunkledog It’s been a long time. But arguably the best staff ever at SIU was Weber, Painter, Lowery, Watson.
That is one group. The other group I would consider was Lambert, Williams, Iubelt.
Lambert came from a small school and was successful. After winning and going to the NCAA tournament and an NIT. asked for a pay increase. Our Administration said no. The next year he was hired by Auburn but died in a hotel fire before he coached 1 day.
Williams was an assistant who brought in players from Alabama and Georgia. Glenn, Meriweather, Abrams brothers, Wilson , Ford ,Cliat, others. Iubelt brought in Ricci, Shidler other local talent. Great times back then.
Agree, that was a great group. My fr. Year was Lamberts first. However, Webers staff ended up having 4 head coaches on it. All that said, both great groups of coaches.

Yes, great group of players and what would have been if the administration paid him more money?
@kiwiball I loved those Lambert teams but he was a better recruiter than coach
That '77 team would have been better served with Hughlett and Grant playing the 5 with Wilson and Ford playing 3 and 4. IMHO
