All this talk about signing "role players" rubs me the wrong way. Why the hell wouldn't they sign the best possible available player they can get?
i absolutely want a role player. someone who fills the roll of all conference center. about 6-11, 260. shot blocker, rebounder, beast. what do you have against that kind of role player? 😂
Two of these kind of role players would be nice 😊

I am sure they are.
getting somebody better than Jones,Domask or Harvey at this point seems like a long long shot though
I agree, however the thought of "I'd rather sign a mediocre player than Zion Williamson because he may take away playing time from Lance Jones" is just absolutely ridiculous. Granted, I am clearly exagerating, however it seems like we have people wanting us to get lesser players because they may take playing time away from the others is simply insane. Maybe I am reading those comments wrong, but that certainly seems to be the principle behind it. I agree with @rockin-dawg.

That is not what I meant at all. I said it would be very tough this year due to obvious obstacles to get anybody better than Domask,Jones or Harvey
I am sure that Bryan will sign the type of player that will fit his objectives for the program. We will just have to wait and see how the roster develops. I offered my opinion on recruiting these last two open scholarship spots due to some members concern over the apparent recent slowed information being available on prospective recruits.
One aspect of waiting to see if the possible one time transfer rule change, is that better players may enter the portal if they know they will not have to sit a year by changing schools.
My use of the term "role player" is for players that are not on the roster for major playing minutes. That doesn't mean they won't earn major playing minutes, just that they were brought in for a specific quality in their game. A couple roles I would think Bryan would be looking at is a very athletic rim protector (think Thik Bol) and an experienced point guard. Not every player on a team will be a "star player". If a player is not a "star player" they will play a role for the team.
Realistically the staff have several offers out to quality players for the 2021-2022 team. My opinion is these last two scholarships will be to players with one year left to play. As of right now, D'Avanzo will be the only known player leaving the roster next year. There was a time that a coach would roll an open scholarship to the next season, but in this era of transfers with one year of eligibility left, that practice does not make much sense. You never know how healthy your team will remain through the season. It makes sense to have those additional players available when and if needed.

On @EvanDaniels site (247 Sports Director of Recruiting), he has a story on ETSU transfer Bo Hodges that includes a list of schools who have contacted him, which includes the Salukis.

Hodges, who would have to sit out next season due to current transfer rules, received calls from Arkansas, Butler, DePaul, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, Southern Illinois, Tennessee State, Vanderbilt, Western Kentucky and Xavier.
Think the article is wrong, Hodges shouldn't have to sit even if the transfer rule doesn't change because his coach left for Wake Forest.

You could be right, but it appears the immediate eligibility for a head coaching change only applies to incoming Freshmen. I would say from the below link that an upperclassmen like Hodges may still have to request a waiver to play immediately at any D1 school he chooses. His eligibility waiver would then be considered and decided on by an NCAA committee.
