So as it stands now it looks like we are carrying two open scholarships in to next year...It’s hard for me to imagine they don’t sign at least one more experienced guard, but man is it getting late.

There's still a lot of transfers out there that haven't committed. It's very possible some of them might be waiting out to see if the dead period ends and they're able to visit campuses before the season
I'm sure the ongoing pandemic situation is affecting recruiting to the point now where as it continues to cast doubt on how next season might look, it's becoming increasingly difficult to get kids to commit amid the uncertainty. I'd wager finding a substantial piece to fit with next years team going forward will only get tougher.

The pandemic situation is affecting pretty much everyone with open scholarships. Desirable uncommitted players have to go somwhere.
Ramean Hinton 6'4 SG Chicago Curie, the top uncommitted wing in Illinois. (Rivals 3*) has SIU in his top two according to PrepHoopsIllinois. "Hinton told PHI on Thursday that a pair of in-state schools in Southern Illinois and Western Illinois have emerged as his top two choices." Western is probably in the picture because Nic Irvin, ex-Morgan Park coach, was recently hired as an assistant.

not late at all. these are very different times my friend.
Craving a McBride Special!
A little off topic, but the transfer waiver has been discussed in this topic with past posts. So far, this only effects Steven Verplancken at SIU.

He chose Western.
Small sample size, but so far the new staff has had trouble closing the deal with city kids they’ve put time into (Antonio Reeves last spring, Jeremiah Williams and now Hinton this year).
As long as they pull in occasional Illinois Wolves kids and other suburban prospects (like D’Avanzo), it might not be much of an issue, but it’s a trend worth watching.

It is affecting everyone, but SIU might be hurt a little more in that they haven't been able to bring kids on campus to help close the deal. That's a big part of what SIU has to offer. Also, when kids are trying to make decisions from a distance, I'm sure prestige also plays a role. If this were 2007, maybe it'd give SIU a little extra push as opposed to trying to fill out the roster in pandemic 2020.
It could also just be my impatience in wanting to see what happens with these last two scholarships. 😉

If this guy chose Western over Southern for basketball, we know he was NOT smart enough to play for the Salukis!

If it was down to us and Western and he chose Western, I'd have to question if he really even had an offer from us.
On @EvanDaniels site (247 Sports Director of Recruiting), he has a story on ETSU transfer Bo Hodges that includes a list of schools who have contacted him, which includes the Salukis.
Bo Hodges to Butler.
