A 6'8" Rim Protector has just entered the Portal as a Grad-Transfer from Manhattan. As a Sophomore, Pauley Paulicap was the MAAC Defensive Player of the year for the 2017-2018 Season.

Would LOVE to SIU land a kid like this with one of their remaining scholarships, but Mullins is highly focused on guards and wings with his recruiting efforts.
Bring on another! <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Former Southern Utah G Jakolby Long is transferring to Southern Illinois. <a href="https://twitter.com/jsnipe43?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@jsnipe43</a> <a href="https://t.co/EzEH0uIPF3"> https://t.co/EzEH0uIPF3</a> <a href="https://t.co/RGcilmVS7v"> https://t.co/RGcilmVS7v</a></p>— Verbal Commits (@VerbalCommits) <a href="https://twitter.com/VerbalCommits/status/1278773578469707776?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 2, 2020</a></blockquote> https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
Want a big guard for next year to shore up the back court with lots of experience. Done. Our coaches are amazing recruiters in the midst of a pandemic.
Jakolby Long 6'5 SG. Great pickup for SIU this late in 2020 recruting.
- Averaged 24.6 ppg, 8.0 rpg and 5.3 apg as a senior at Mustang High School while the team finished 20-7
- Named Class 6A Oklahoma Boys Coaches Association Player of the Year
- Was rated a three-star guard and ranked among Rivals Top-150, and was Scout's top-ranked prep in the state of Oklahoma
- Initially selected Iowa State over Oklahoma State, Georgia and Missouri
This is a fun video of his High School days. Looks like a shootout against Malik Monk. A couple one on one wins against the NBA'r.

All of the above may be true, but to add some balance, he didn't pan out at Iowa State and averaged 6 ppg at Southern Utah, so clearly he has not, to this point, delivered on whatever the rankings would have suggested he would be.
That said, he is exactly the kind of pick-up that makes sense for this roster, especially this late in the recruiting cycle (the school year starts next month!). A veteran player who can add some depth and push the younger players so that they have to earn their minutes.
Hopefully, like Benson, he looks at this grad-school opportunity as a chance to make up for lost time and go out with a bang.
The Mullins' crew are really something. We don't hear a word for 2 months and bang! A classic big for next year and a nice big all around guard to at least add talent and depth to a very promising squad. You gotta love it.
Worth taking a chance on talent like that. Barring another grad transfer, it's possible he starts the year at starting 2 guard.
Here's some of his highlights from college:

Possible, but I'd say it's more likely the starting 5 is Jones, Harvey, Domask, D'Avanzo, Muila. Unless Long really unlocks some upside in a hurry, there's nothing in his college history that says he'd supplant any of those guys (and you probably need Muila's rebounding/interior defense in the mix).

I really don't mind that lineup although you might get beat by the quicker guards in the league. But you're probably getting an offensive advantage at every position except Muila who should be the best defender team.

Watching that video he reminds me of a left handed Sean Lloyd...head down straight to the basket. If he can play D like Lloyd I think I would take that.
An unabashed homer admittedly, I 100% cannot wait to see this team in real time. If we can hold our own on the boards, this will be a successful continuation of coach Mullins rebuild of Saluki basketball. Offense improved, depth much better, Domask and Lance a year under their belts with Harvey the gunner I can’t wait to see. This ain’t Barry Ball. Didn’t even mention D’Avanzo and Long.

Hard to argue that starting 5. Lots of versatility and talent there. Good size too.
I see Long filling a role similar to Ronnie Suggs, although likely featured a little less prominently due to the increased talent/depth on the roster unless, as you say, he taps into that potential in a hurry.
Either way, he's still a great addition.
