An interesting tidbit: Just reading Prep Hoops ranking of Wisconsin top 2020 basketball recruits and where they are going.
#1 & 2 Univ. of Wisconsin
# 3 Southern Ill. (Dalton Banks)
# 4 UNLV
Seems to put Dalton/SIU in good company.
I have read that he has been rated #2 or #3 in most publications. If he keeps scoring, rebounding and dishing out the ball the way he has, along with getting steals, he'll solidify that ranking for sure !!!
I post this with the assumption that Gooch grad transfers and Jeremic transfers out.
That would leave SIU with 4 open scholarships, which I think all should be used on JUCO bigs. Two who would be incoming juniors, two who would be incoming freshman(a'la Francois).
Preferably:
Sydney Curry(6'8, 265 PF from John A. Logan) who would be a sophomore.
Tyron McMillian(6'9, 230 PF from Kilgore College) who would be a sophomore.
DeAndre Pinckney(6'8, 205 SF from Broward College) who would be a junior.
Manel Ayol(6'7, 190 SF from Western Wyoming CC) who would be a junior.
That would leave:
SR-0
JR-Manel Ayol, Harwin Francois, DeAndre Pinckney
SO-Trent Brown, Sydney Curry, Karrington Davis, Sekou Dembele, Marcus Domask, Ben Harvey, Lance Jones, Tyron McMillian
FR-Dalton Banks, Eric Butler
Redshirt the two incoming sophomore jucos, try and get a medical redshirt for Demble, redshirt one of the two incoming freshman. That would help class balance.
Realistically, I don't see Dembele getting a medical redshirt. My feeling is Mullins and staff will be looking to add an immediate impact big either by way of grad transfer or JUCO transfer and a freshman big.
This is what I believe will likely happen under the assumption that either one of, or both Gooch and Jeremic are no longer here next season. If both return, of course that changes the lens a bit.

Dalton Banks stats last night against D.C. Everest (Eau Claire won 92-84): 29 pts, 13 rbs, 7 asts.

And did better shooting the 3 with a 2-5 performance. Looks like he is stepping up his game even further. Keep it up Dalton !!!
Dalton Banks goes off for a career high 46 pts. against Rochester Mayo, MN.

A friend of mine has seen him play a couple of times. Tells me he is the real deal. We are getting a good one boys.
Man, you add Cook, Banks, and Harvey in with Domask, Jones, Davis, Francois, Brown.... wow, what a group of guards. If we get ANY help from a couple bigs next year we are going to be very good.

A couple of 'ready to contribute' bigs has to be the main priority. I trust that Mullins and staff will pull a rabbit or two outta the hat. And with the way SIU is playing, it won't be a hard sell.
If you're a grad-transfer big, or impact JUCO transfer, how could you not want a chance to be a focal point within that group?! It'd be an opportunity to play a huge role on a team that could be very good.

This team is going to be VERY good next year. Think of how good they have played in such a short period of time (relatively speaking). Then picture them all with a full year + of experience PLUS Harvey. Then add in a, assumed, talented big man and this team WILL be fighting for the MVC crown and then some !!! Or I could just be drunk on Saluki Kookaid !

They make the dance next year.....
If anyone has time, the streamed game Eau Claire North vs Rochester Mayo is available. This is the game played yesterday where Dalton scored 46pts. I'm only 5 minutes into the game and his quickness is a difference maker. His handles the ball incredibly well, is a great passer and, did I mention how fast he is ??!!
After watching the game, I came away very impressed with Dalton's speed, quickness, court vision, passing and ability to drive to the basket. There was some room for improvement on FT's and his outside shot. But the Salukis are getting a very good one here !!
I watched it, too and I agree with all of the above. But can we have #13 for Rochester, too??
Just watched and Banks is really impressive as hell at getting to the basket and passing. Teams are gonna have to worry about our bigger guys, Domask and Harvey hitting outside shots and Lance Jones and Banks swarming to the rim. This is gonna be fun. Not worried about the free throw shooting, Banks seems like a hard worker and I'm sure he'll improve.
