Wasn’t meant for you BK as much as just seeing many on here thinking he’s gonna be all that and I’m just more cautious on kids from the smaller classes in high school basketball.
This is fair. Some of the crazy rebound totals Banks had for his size probably reinforces this point. I'm optimistic he'll be a good player and he clearly is a born leader, but bringing in veteran depth at PG makes sense.
@bleacher-bum I think you are correct on the 3 bigs, unless one has range and can play more than just the 5. As of right now I see Muila and Dembele as 5s , one more and I think we are done at that position.
I disagree. Dembele is a big injury-prone question mark. And what if someone else gets hurt? We're right back to where we were last season (with Benson as our only big). Need at least a couple more. I'm fine with another transfer (Makoui, D'Avanzo), but I'd also really like to see us bring in a post player we can develop for four years (Coulibaly, Filewich).
Spot on rawdog. Can never have enough good bigs.
I COMPLETELY agree! Let's not put ourselves in a position where the lone quality low post guy gets injured and there's nothing in the cupboard. Dembele is a project, there's no question about that. I'm not giving up on him and he may turn out to be THE guy down low for SIU in his junior and senior seasons (see Randal Falker), but he absolutely needs more playing time. I'd personally like to see Mullins play two bigs in certain situations. When Bradley or MO State goes with a couple of low post guys on the floor at a time, it would have been nice to see SIU be able to combat that. "Length" frustrated SIU last year and it was something they couldn't overcome against Bradley in the MVC Tournament.
@dogdaysI believe Eau Claire North (Dalton Banks' school) plays in the large school class in Wisconsin. Their enrollment was 1417 students.

This young man seems to have all the intangibles to make a difference here before it's all over. That being said, there are indeed a lot of unknowns which makes grabbing an experienced, ready to start from Day 1, point guards a priority which would allow Jones to be able to flex more between the guard positions up top.
The totals and percentages below are just to look at playing time by position last season. The position listed for each player came from the SIU, 2019-2020 official roster. So far, there are currently 5 Guards and 4 Forwards (includes W/O, Will Keller) on next seasons roster.
32 Games Played
6,424 Minutes Played (sum of total minutes played by each player)*
Guards - 4,121.5 minutes = 64.2%
McGill - 1,023.5 minutes = 15.9%
Jones - 824.5 minutes = 12.8%
Brown - 658.75 minutes = 10.3%
Suggs - 638 minutes = 9.9%
Francois - 499 minutes = 7.8%
Davis - 291.75 minutes = 4.5%
Cook - 186 minutes = 2.9%
Forwards - 1,393.75 minutes = 21.7%
Domask - 1,116 minutes = 17.4%
Gooch - 190 minutes = 3.0%
Dembele 79 minutes = 1.2%
Keller - 9 minutes = .01%
Centers - 908.75 minutes = 14.1%
Benson - 864 minutes = 13.4%
Jeremic - 44.75 minutes = 1.2%
* One overtime game (@ Evansville) is why the total minutes averages more than 200 minutes per 32 games played.

My bad, think you’re right. I was mistaken.

I can't help but notice JALC PG Eric Boone sitting there at 26. Seems like he someone who could definitely help and he's right down the road.
@saluki-4-life I don't have a feel for anyone making a commitment at this point but it sure is a lot of fund speculating about who's coming next and what Saluki basketball will look like next year.
WOOF!
Anyone have a feel on Coulibaly?
I predict he commits before signing day.

Fun stats. This puts a lot of pressure on Muila/Domask to rebound. This also tends to work better with bigger guards, to switch screens and compete on the glass. None of Jones/Brown/Banks are big. Harvey has ok size, but I have no idea on his rebounding skills.

The Coaching Staff is aware he exists. 😉

Man, I hope your prediction is right. He appears to fit right into our wheelhouse!
