Other than Senior leadership, which might be the goal here, I really don't see how a role player on a 3-29 team makes this team better
I see your point, but actually he looks pretty good on paper. 6'9" averaged 9 PPG & 5 RPG at a D1 school? Can play inside and out. Guards well against 3-5. Some High Majors are even looking at him, evidently.

Played almost 30 mins/game - must have been a starter. 5.1 rbs per game. Would have one year left.
He started but was down the list on the team in possessions. His numbers aren't terrible, it's possible he was misused. He'd have to sit out this year so you'd still have a lot of spots to fill.

Yeah, I was trying to figure out who this is and I couldn't find anything. All I got was a Malik from Quartz Hill High School in California
I was looking into him too and can’t find anything either. There isn’t a Malik on the Quartz Hill Roster
Malik Smith - Alton High School Redbirds probably - 6' 3" SG

On 2nd thought, maybe not!
Things will hopefully become a lot clearer here in the next few days. With more than a year to prepare, there are some kids that this staff have coveted that will possibly sign. Hoping a player like Domask and his particular situation happen again is not likely.
What was Domasks situation?

Committed to N. Kentucky. Coach left so MD reopened recruitment.
What is going on? I thought we were getting a commitment soon.. We are getting in late on what seem to be really under recruited kids or just not very good players... I do not like where this is heading. Need a wing and veteran guard ASAP and probably another big
@saluki-4-life Last year, Mullins was hired on March 20th I believe , didn’t sign his first player until April 24th , and proceeded to bring in benson, Suggs, Domask, Harvey, Davis, Francois , as well as the Clemson kid that didn’t pan out ..... Now Bryan has had a year to work , there is lots of talent still available , we will be just fine. He will get quality players. Now if we get to the end of next month and still have 4 or 5 spots to fill then I may start to worry
Again, waiting/hoping/assuming on players like Domask to have their already chosen college coach quit and then reopen their search is not a smart or successful strategy. I'm 100% sure coach is not following this, I only point it out to those that say "don't worry" we can land kids like Domask in May easily. That simply isn't common. I, for one, am hoping that the work this staff has put in for the last year pays off. We shall see here in just the next few weeks, if not days.
@insaluki agree 100% , if you count on the MD scenario playing out every year a lot of times you will come up empty. Like you I think now that is signing day we will start to see a few more commits roll in , in the next couple weeks. I really think by the end of April Mullins will have at least two more commits on top of what he already has.

The recent focus has been on experienced point guards (JUCO) but from what I've read this kid would be a quality addition. Best two way guard in Canada according to Northpolehoops. High character, great defender, always works to improve: 22ppg, 7rpg, 6.1 apg, 4.7 spg! We offered early, last July.
