I just can’t imagine the coaching staff going hard after these guys committing to lowly basketball schools. I wonder if the fact that they can’t go on campus visits hurts recruiting. SIU wasn’t at the top of my list until I stepped foot on campus and really got a feel for the area, then it was a no brainer. If Bryan had a chance to speak face-to-face with these guys, walk them around our facilities, and meet the team, I feel like we’d have a few more commits already. I’m still not worried! Just some thoughts
Agree. This virtual recruiting has really changed things up.

BM has a great personality and a very likable person. All coaches are in the same position but in our case, BM greatest traits are not being used fully. I believe it is hurting us.
I like Brown as well, looks like he worked really hard to remediate some of his weak skills from high school. What I wonder about is what happened to his shooting/scoring skills from his high school years. If I remember correctly he was quite the offensive threat but seems like not at the college level. It seems like he put that on hold until he made the adjustment to the pace, strength and conditioning levels in the college game. Any thoughts?
It's easy to forget that he was just a Freshman and some people adjust quicker than others to the D1 game. He seemed pretty hesitant when shooting for much of the season as opposed to what you can see on YouTube from what he did in high school. He does a lot of the little things really well and seems like a hard working, good kid

He also is, more often than not, the most intelligent person in the room.
There are people that would say there are no concerns even if SIU didn't sign a single player this year. There are others that are really really concerned. Most of us, however, fall somewhere in between. That being said, I will NEVER understand why people get called out for having either opinion. I love this site because there are so many diverse opinions, I love this site because there are MANY more people that have information on this team than I do all the way up here in NW Indiana. Listen, if someone is concerned because things don't look good, they're not "on the ledge", they're concerned. And why? Because they LOVE Saluki Basketball. We are all here for the same reasons. Try to take that into account before you bash.
Having concern is perfectly fine, and can be expected. Expecting imminent demise due to April signings (or lack thereof) that was stated previously in the thread is just silly. I have the right to express my opinion as such.
WTFH??? I could see losing him to Buffalo... BUT SAMFORD? Fred must be happy today.
maybe he thought that they were saying Stanford...
Craving a McBride Special!
I honestly do not understand a lot of the concern here. When we look at last years team, we lost Benson and McGill. Yes, there were a few others, but I do not remember winning any games because of the players that left (no offense to any of these guys, as I honestly liked every one of them).
Look at the guys that made the most meaningful impacts last year...Domask, Jones, McGill, and Benson (and even Trent Brown off the bench, even though I know there are mixed feelings on Brown). 2 of them are gone. The other 2 will continue to develop. We have every reason to believe that Harvey is an absolute stud. Muila should be more than ready to step into the Valley as well. Maybe I am a bit overly optimistic, but I also think that Banks and Butler will be solid players as well.
We need to fill the roster with quality players. We all know that depth was a major problem last year. And if we happen to land a nice 3 star player in the process, great! We will be even better for it.
If we lose more conference games this year than last, it will most likely be a result of a better MVC overall, not that we are "worse than last year".
If we get D’Avanzo tomorrow a lot of that concern goes out the Window!

don't forget that he is/was shooting from a different 3 point line in high school. he got free for some great looks this past season but i think he lost to the confidence game. he is working hard and will be fine.

D'Avanzo is a big domino. If he falls our way, things start to feel quite a bit better. I still believe we're in a really good spot to land Makoui too. If we do that, and find an experienced guard that fits our needs via transfer, everything else is icing on the cake and we should collectively feel really good about it.
--Insert something witty here--
Not being able to bring players/families in for visits really, really hurts us, probably more than most. I believe players are truly astonished at the high level of facilities/campus/region after they come. Oh well, that’s not going to happen this recruiting spring. Keep plugging along.

Doesn't really mean much, but several Drake fans have recently followed D'Avanzo on Twitter. Hope he wants to stay in Illinois!
I recently followed him on twitter too. Not sure that makes much difference.

Wood, I have the utmost respect for you and your inside knowledge of the program, which is infinitely more than I have. I used to love reading your posts on SalukiTalk (still have my Tshirt) and am glad it seems that you are posting more here now. FWIW, I was not referring to you specifically. That being said, to be fair, I don't feel using Domask is a good example of why people shouldn't be concerned. Him coming to SIU was an incredibly unique situation and one, surely, that is not part of the staff's recruiting strategy.
@salukiworld Montana State???
MSU (aka "moo u", the ag school is there) is one of my numerous alma maters. Bozeman is a wonderful place, though increasingly expensive. It's been "Aspenated", with it's nice nearby ski areas, especially Bridger Bowl, thus the school's other nickname, "Bridger U". The business school's classes are all Monday-Thursday so the profs can go skiing on Friday and beat the week-end crowds. Yellowstone Park is an hour and a half away. Basketball-wise, the Cat-Griz games are always intense.
The wife and I, in fact, met at MSU when we were both students there.
