Even assuming he has to sit, it's fun to think about putting pieces around Domask-Jones-Harvey for a big run those next couple years.
Two down, four to go. 😀
D'Avanzo would not have to sit.
I like this kid. He had lots of mid majors offers out of high school. Not sure why he went D2. A big guard with all the tools. Great pickup by Coach Mullins.
I believe he would have had MORE D1 offers had there not been the (current) rule that he would have to sit out a year. I really respect St. Bonny, which offered him, and our newer rival Loyola also offered him. This is definitely a good get. Regardless of what happens this coming season, I believe the Dawgs will be really good in 2 years which is HUGE bc we don't want our younger CORE players leaving to win elsewhere.
We have a commit:

6'4 guard transfer from Glenville State, born in the Dominican Republic. Averaged 16.4 PPG and 5 RPG. Has 3 years of eligibility I think.
Sweet. I was intrigued by this kid.
Has to sit, I assume?
I'm actually not sure on that. Anyone know if D2 to D1 have to sit a year?
He will have to sit one year.
Hopefully they waive the sit rule so he can play right away!
Don't get me wrong, I would love to have this kid right away as much as the next guy. I still don't know if that benefits SIU in the long run though (and other mid majors for that matter). I still fear mid-majors turning into a "minor-league system" for Power 5 schools. See Liam Robbins (Drake)...
@salukiworld Montana State???
MSU (aka "moo u", the ag school is there) is one of my numerous alma maters. Bozeman is a wonderful place, though increasingly expensive. It's been "Aspenated", with it's nice nearby ski areas, especially Bridger Bowl, thus the school's other nickname, "Bridger U". The business school's classes are all Monday-Thursday so the profs can go skiing on Friday and beat the week-end crowds. Yellowstone Park is an hour and a half away. Basketball-wise, the Cat-Griz games are always intense.
The wife and I, in fact, met at MSU when we were both students there.
Oh, and the "Golden Bobcats" won the national championship in 1928-29:

@salukiworld I had high hopes when Brown was recruited. He was an offensive threat in high school but it never transferred over to his freshman year at SIU. He may have been nervous when he appeared in his first Saluki games. It looked like it because he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn early in the year. I saw him play in the Florida tournament early in the year and he missed everything, 2 for 14, a 14.3% rate. He seemed to settle down as the year went on but he is still not hitting with consistency from behind the arc. He shot 41% from behind the arc in high school but only shot 26.8% last year. In the last 10 games of the season he shot 26.3% from behind the arc. I think his shot is a little too flat. His shot was hitting the front of the rim a lot. He needs to put a little more air under his shot, a little higher arc may benefit him and the Salukis this fall.
Nice!
Plays like a bully: big, strong guard that knows how to use his body, but not necessarily an above-the-rim sort of athleticism. Watching him made me think of D.J. Balentine?
Boy oh boy, we needed that after a week of quiet reflection. Welcome home Steven. We know you'll like it here and we are sure glad to have you aboard.

That's my thought, too, that he doesn't look very athletic, so I wonder about his defense. He uses his body well and appears to be a shooter, though. Maybe, if you're doing offense/defense subbing at the end of a game, switch him in and out with Butler.
I see a little Darren Brooks in his offense style. Can score anywhere on the floor. Strength wise, lets hope he can continue to get stronger. He got a big body for a guard and really handles the ball well. Welcome aboard !!

This is awesome. These are the players you want in your program.

Interesting that his coach would say “he changed the culture here”. As Bryan Mullins declared on day 1, “first you build the culture”. Thanks for sharing this, wow, I already like this kid.
The advancement and diffusion of knowledge is the only guardian of true liberty.

I like the comparison - good call.
I posted that I really liked this kid when he popped upon our radar. Watching him more he seems like he would be a fantastic PG. Good handles that can break down a D, quick release, and good vision.
