I don't see anything about him being a grad transfer but everyone thinks the transfer rules will be changed before the season so odds are he won't have to sit a year

I did some research on Manitoba's Filewich and he is interesting. Also plays football at high level. Some locals predicted he would end up in the CFL. He is 6'8 240 lbs. Comments from opposing coaches and others: rugged, dominant, beast, decent footspeed and cannot be outworked in gym or weight room. Hates to lose, great hands, passes well out of double team which he faced considerably, unstoppable in the paint, expanded shooting range, good court vision and passes well, loves to dunk. True freshman and would seem to be the type that starts out learning the defense and speed of the game getting a few minutes here and there and develops into a superior post player and rebounder. Only offer from Presbyterian out of South Carolina and Southland Conference. He does remind me a little of Krutwig and I am curious if the Mullins are looking at him or not. With all the grad transfers around they may not be interested in a raw Frosh.
I've spent a fair amount of time researching Filewich and although very young comparatively, I'm just not sure I'm seeing it. Strength is good. Feet and hands appear decent. Pretty good court awareness. However, he seems pretty limited athletically and doesn't have the height/size (yet) to make up for it at this level, which I think goes a long way in explaining his lack of D1 offers. I think he'd struggle quite a bit against athleticism and length. Think Bradley etc.
On a Saluki team with plenty of skill players and shooters, count me as one who thinks the right complementary pieces are players with length and athleticism. While the idea of developing a player over time is nice and I've been a staunch supporter of doing that in the past, in the current age of the transfer, I'd rather see players brought in who're ready to contribute now with the pieces we currently have in place. That's why I was extremely excited at the prospect of adding Bacon, and would be just fine with the addition of a player like Makoui.

I wonder if he's still talking about Makoui? So long as SIU can snag another guard who's ready to contribute next year, I'd be okay with it.
IMO, we do need another guard/point guard for next season. Preferably a somewhat proven commodity.

I'd definitely like to see them add some kind of transfer athletic guard now. Assuming Dembele is healthy, it seems like they have a good amount of big man depth. If they do add someone like Makoui, I wonder if that leans towards a redshirt for Filewich.

I'd say very likely on the redshirt scenario if Adong is the subject of the rumor. I just don't know of any other Canadian name we've been tied to that we haven't already gotten or lost out on at this point.
