I think if one of Banks or Butler is likely to start next season, it's probably Butler just because of the defense he brings. But that could change in the next few weeks if they add a graduate transfer guard to start, which I think they will.
@dawgbytes Banks outside shooting is going to have to improve before he is a threat to be in the starting lineup.
My Guess on starting lineup would be:
Jones , Domask, Muila, Harvey, D'avanzo.....If Verplancken is eligible, I think he competes with Harvey and D'avanzo for the last starting spot.
might want to wait for the next signing before announcing bryan's starting 5. might have a pleasant surprise for you. just saying.
Yeah, I suppose I could be happier. How long will I have to remain patient? This has been quite the thread!
Domask/Jones/Harvey is the core right now. I am sure of that. How we build around that is what I’m interested to see. Marcus isn’t really a 3 but he’s also not a 4. He’s a 3.5. I’d say one of our next recruits will be primarily based on working with that situation. (I have no inside info, just speculating based on lineups that I believe BMull would like to run)
I may be in the minority by saying this, but I wouldn't mind seeing the last scholarships used on role players. I think we have the "star power" with Jones, Domask and Harvey and I don't see how Mulia and D'avanzo don't start. I think for a fifth year grad transfer guy, you basically have to tell him the job is his to lose, especially since he's leaving a program where he started most games for 3 seasons. For Mulia, I think he's the right 5 man to start with that lineup because he can impact the game without the ball in his hands (ie rebounding, defense, screening, etc.).
I think the roster, as assembled, is already 3-4 games better than last season, and perhaps 5-6 wins better if Domask and Jones make big offseason strides and Harvey is as good as advertised.
I think we can make a big jump to 24-25 wins with the right key veteran bench pieces that can spell the starters. That way we can ease Butler and Banks into action a little bit.
I think a JUCO or grad transfer guard who can run point off the bench would be a big piece. Also if they can hit an outside shot, that would be a plus. A backup big with 5 fouls to give would also be key. I'm thinking of SIU's great teams (because that's what Mullins is building back to) and they had guys like Bryan Turner (JUCO guard), Marcus Belcher (JUCO guard), Lamar Owen (JUCO wing), Tyrone Green (JUCO guard), Tyrese Buie (JUCO F), etc. to plug the gaps and mentor while young guys like Hairston, Brooks ('02), Tatum and Young ('05) worked their way up in their early years until they were ready to take over as juniors and seniors.
I would like to see:
PG Jones
SG Harvey
SF Domask
PF D'avanzo
C Mulia
6 Veteran Guard/Wing
7 Veteran backup big
8 Brown
9 Banks
10 Butler
11 Filewich (RS?)
12 Dembele (when/if healthy)
13 Verplancken (RS)
14 Keller (WO)
15 Gibson (is he still walking on?)
Verplancken will most likely be eligible and will be first or second guard off the bench at the start. Just my guess, but that kid is good .
Totally agree.
Imagine being Aaron Cook: "I could be fighting for playing time in my senior year at SIU or be the backup point guard at Gonzaga."
Gosh, what ever shall I do???

This is so much more fun.
Not too long ago, there were people on this board bitching about the likes of Fillyaw and Pendleton being "run out of here" and the promise of the likes of Leo Vincent.
Which is not to run down those kids, but isn't this a whole lot better? 🙂

Domask, Harvey, and Jones are locks for the starting five.
This is so much more fun.

Man you have that right! I’m sitting here reading this with a big smile on my face this morning, and chuckling about the doom and gloom on this board just a few days ago. We hit the wall late last season because we had no bench, now we are worried about everybody getting enough playing time, I love it!

Well, I look at the grid and see a solid frontcourt and a solid backcourt. Don't see a bunch of holes to fill. I always let the coaches decide who starts and who sits and who redshirts because they know so much more than I do. What I would do in this situation is go get the two best basketball players, that fit the culture, that i could find regardless of class, size, position etc.
This is so much more fun.

In the same vein, I am worried that we are still recruiting bigs. we have so many already, why aren't we going after guards 🤣 😀 . I still like Makoui however
Jeremiah Williams is supposed to announce his decision today...

Is it still the consensus, SIU has backed away from Williams ?

He's very likely to commit to Temple today

Unless I am missing something (or someone), not sure how much I agree about too many bigs. We have a true freshman, who by all accounts is raw and may take time to develop. We will have a juco transfer junior, who should be good by late season (maybe sooner). We have a one year transfer grad who is more of a stretch 4 that a true 5. We have a 6-7 somewhat smaller 5 who has shown very little to this point, who is also questionable due to a serious injury. I'd say we may need another for next year and certainly more for down the road.
