The only reason they aren't playing high school basketball is because of in-state rules. There is no reason these kids can't play for an Indiana AAU team or even an Illinois AAU team that only plays out of state. They don't have to worry about getting state funding cuts for playing like a high school would.
There are some IHSA rules regarding playing AAU at certain parts of the year. I thought the IHSA revised the rules during covid but I cannot confirm. I know the IHSA is not reconizing the normal winter season so that might be the loophole for kids to play AAU.
@siucubfan
The AAu teams and more than a few high school teams ( Minus there head coach) in southern Illinois have been playing in cape and Stlouis for last couple months.
This is good info. Does anyone know if D'Amico and the other IL recruit are playing any AAU basketball right now?
Yes, Scottie Ebube played at Rock N Ball Winter League in Hammond IN over the weekend. Good writeup from Prephoops:
"The Southern Illinois commit was outstanding in this contest. Physical five man that knows how to use his strength to his advantage. Scored in the post on seals, spins, and using brute force for and-1s. Also flashed with strong takes from the mid-post and showed adept passing out of the post including one dime where he found a cutter on the weakside out of a double team. Quality outlet passer as well. Excellent area rebounder and effective post defender blocking shots on the interior."

Darn!!! I live 10 minutes from Hammond. I would have loved to see that.
When asked, "What prospect from class of 2021 can be effective right away in college next season? Prephoops analyst Steve Parham's response,
"If I had to choose one player that will have an immediate impact next season it would be Troy D’Amico. The Niles Notre Dame forward plays like a college player in my opinion already. He can affect things on both sides of the ball. D’Amico can play with his back to the basket and as a face up forward. His attention to details in sets they run at Niles Notre Dame translate well to the college level. Troy has a huge swagger about his game where he does not back down from competition or adversity. I’ve seen many games where Troy didn’t have the size or strength advantage and he still out rebounded the opposition. These strong points can find you solid minutes at many college programs. D’Amico has the chance to be an immediate impact at Southern Illinois."

I figured, just didn’t know for sure, thanks.
Per Jon Rothstein's twitter site, both Southern and Loyola are expressing interest in Brown grad transfer Tamenang Choh (6'5" SF).

Wow! Ebube is a monster down low.
Wow! Ebube is a monster down low.
Yes!
Also love that he does not put the ball on the floor, just goes straight for the rack. Can't wait for this kid and the rest of that class.
March on triumphantly!
Pretty good read about Foster, although it's sad that he hasn't played a competitive game in almost a full year. He will probably get some games in outside of high school, but so much lost development and improvement for these IL and MI players due to not being able to play. I can't believe these guys haven't done more (like Ebube).
@barkeep-1967 It would be amazing if we can sign Mr. Sayles. He is a great guard and a great athlete.
