D'Amico vs. Ebube today at 3:00 PM Central
Watched a bit of this game. Sayles was out and Notre Dame lost. Ebube was a beast and basically shut down the #1 team in the state. D'Amico was off.

Troy D'Amico had 9 points
Watching the game live was nearly impossible so I waited until the stream was over and watched the replay (from initial pause). One game is the smallest of sample sizes, but it's all I have. Ebube has the size and athleticism of a college athlete.....already. He will definitely help SIU on the boards next season. He does not, however, look like a good offensive player. The fact that Mundelein does NOT seem to run any sets for him is odd, considering his size. But with his athleticism, there is potential. And just by cleaning up the glass and getting some dunks, he'll get his fair share of points. I have to say though, he really is one of the worst FT shooters I have ever seen.
Troy can dribble very well for a player his size. He also sees the court well and is a good passer. The fact that he is the 3rd best player on the team is slightly alarming (for lack of a better word). I would say he was "blah" today. In a key matchup, he simply didn't stand out, if anything he looked slow and definitely did not shoot well. Again, it was odd to see him being the 2nd or 3rd option on a team who's best player was not in the lineup (Anthony Sayles). I need to see the boxscore, because the feed still was cutting out, but I'm not sure if he hit a single jumper. But, as I said, it was one game. His length and passing ability alone will help the team in the future. It might take a few years though.

Thanks for the report. From what I gather, D’Amico isn’t clicking at the moment and can play a lot better offensively than he has shown in the early stages of this abbreviated hs season.
Here’s hoping Muila, Ebube and of course Filewich help turn around SIU’s rebounding shortcomings these next couple years.
I watched the game, as well as one other ND game. I concur with the others who have posted. D'Amico seems to be off his game right now. Perhaps that's why he's looking to penetrate and pass. He's very good at that and sees the court well. His shot is awful at the moment. I have a feeling it will improve as the year goes on. He's long, lanky, & a fairly athletic 3-4 man. There must be a reason he's ranked the #7 player in the state. It will show eventually.
I was also surprised to hear Ebube listed at 6' 10". He's definitely a 5-man. He and Filewich are similar players (including the horrible free throw form). But also including the great power moves around the basket. It'll be interesting watching them go at it in practice next year!
Both players need some serious conditioning to reach their true potential IMO. But both have a very high ceiling, if they're willing to do the work.

‘‘[Ebube] is a beast,’’ Notre Dame coach Kevin Clancy said. ‘‘[Troy D’Amico] worked extremely hard defensively on him, and he battled it as best as he could. It affected what he did offensively because of the wear and physicality of the game. Troy didn’t shoot the ball as usual, and that certainly didn’t help us.’’

Ok I drooled on my phone a little

Outside of FT shooting, I have only positive things to say about Filewich. I'm not sure how similar their games are. I definitely need more game film, but Filewich seems to have superior post moves/footwork at this time. But he definitely lacks the explosiveness that Ebube has. Filewich, despite his size, has trouble getting up (and quickly) to dunk the ball except when wide open. That is NOT a problem with Ebube. I expect he will block a lot more shots than Filewich. Given the same playing time he will challenge him for rebounds as well. But scoring is another thing. He's more of a opportunity scorer at this time than having the ball flow through him, like they sometimes do with Filewich. Either way, I'm excited about his athleticism and IF the staff can develop him (which does seem to be one of their strenghts), this youn man's potential is VERY high (a difference maker).
Looks like they added a season-ending HS basketball tournament where both our IL recruits will be playing. I hope it will be live streamed, but either way it should be fun to watch.

Sounds like Wonders will finish with 42 as they pulled him in the 4th
Edit:
I'm watching Troy D'Amico play right now and he's continuing to struggle. He looks like the 3rd best player on that Norte Dame team behind Lesmond and Sayles. But you wonder if the weird season and wearing masks is impacting some players more than others.
I just came here to post the same thing. I absolutely love his ball handling, especially for his size. But man he looks tentative and slow. I have watched him (on and off) for nearly 2 games now and I have yet to see him make a single jump shot. I find it odd also that the ball does not flow through him as a main player. Luckily, you cannot teach the intangibles he has, but after 2 games I'm a bit surprised at the fact that he has been invisible (non-factor).
............and the next 2 possessions D'Amico hits a key 3 and then with a beautiful assist on an entry pass. Then a steal on the defensive end. For the record, the announcers are saying the same thing. That D'Amico seems off, tentative, etc. But one announcer, a former coach, says he'd take Troy on his team any day of the week.

So, Sayles is back?? I had heard he was ineligible, but perhaps it was just a mild injury? Or Covid? Does anybody know for sure? I've also watched D'Amico for two games and while his shooting/scoring has been tentative, he did look to have at least 10 assists in one of the games.
