Lesmond scored 14 points and had six rebounds for Notre Dame. Senior Anthony Sayles led the Dons (6-1, 3-0 East Suburban Catholic) with 17 points. SIU recruit Troy D’Amico added 11 points and five rebounds.

D’Amico hasn’t flashed his usual offensive firepower this season, but he’s finding other ways to contribute. He followed a rebound and basket with an assist to Sayles with 2:55 left to help Notre Dame build a five-point lead during a crucial stretch.

‘‘My shot is not falling, and everybody can see that,’’ D’Amico said. ‘‘I’m just trying to do as much as I can to help the team. Especially in a game like this, where all 10 guys on the court are going as hard as they can.’’

“I looked at our game plan and what we want to do — or try to do — on Foster. Like every other team, we had to switch out different guys guarding him,” said Kingsford head coach Dan Olkkonen. “But he wasn’t missing many shots, plus their second-best offense is the other four guys on their team rebounding, giving Foster the ball back.”

Watched both the Notre Dame vs St. Patrick and Mundelein vs Notre Dame games on YouTube.  D'Amico is definitely the Floor General for Notre Dame.  He was consistently directing off the ball players on offense and defense.  No disrespect for Sayles as their point guard, but D'Amico runs that team.  He does a good job getting his team players in the best position for overall effective results.

Notre Dame vs St. Patrick

Mundelein vs Notre Dame   (Sayles did not play)

On signing day, this young man was probably held my lowest level of excitement.  He has since passed D'Amico and is quickly moving up.  If there weren't questions about Wonders level of competition, I'd say he would easily be our best recruit, but Ebube seemingly wants that spot................ and I like it.

I watched the game last night against Libertyville (streaming). He gets almost all his points on put backs from rebounds off of missed shots. Rarely takes a shot himself. But, hey, a bucket is a bucket. Lord knows, we need more of those.

And that is exactly why I'm excited about him.  I posted earlier that the offense will likely NOT run through him, but he will be grabbing boards, blocking shots and adding an athletic physical presence down low.  Filewich is much more polished offensively at this point, but Ebube can jump out of the gym and has a higher ceiling IMO. There WILL be growing pains, but you can't teach athleticism, something this current team desperately needs.

@insaluki offensive rebounding and put backs would help offensive production not to mention a defensive presence and rebounding would help shore up a definite short coming on this team

I don't care if Foster Wonders does come from a small school.  He looks like the real deal.  From the video I've seen of him, he seems extremely polished for his age and his range is outstanding.  A 6'5" shooting guard who averages 40 points a game??  I'm really looking forward to seeing this kid at SIU next year.

Iron Mountain defeated Ironwood 83-44.

IM’s Foster Wonders had 40 points, including a 23-point first quarter where he made seven 3s.

around 31:10, Ebube makes a very sweet move for 2

While I am as excited about Wonders as the next guy, I still recommend caution to go along with the optimism.  Tommy Murr, a freshmen at Lipscomb, AVERAGED 44pts his Jr and Sr year, LEADING THE NATION in scoring both years.  He is a legend in the state of Alabama.  All that and he has barely played this season, playing in only 9 games and often only in garbage time for a team that is pretty bad and has no post season aspirations.  ** I am NOT saying Wonders is similar **  I am just saying that if you look at the video on him, you would think he'd come in and turn that program around.  You just never know what you'll get when you recruit a kid playing at that level of competition.  That being all said, I still think he turns out to be a STUD in the valley.  : )

I think I remember Marcus Domask having similar concerns right?  Weren't there concerns about him playing against small schools in high school?

Yes but the level Domask faced, as I understand it, is much higher than Wonders.  Geographically, it makes sense.  Again, though, what I said should not be misconstrued.  I think this kid has a chance to be something special, I'm just not counting on it (not that anyone else is).

I sure hope SIU lands an eye-popping grad transfer this spring/summer. The right blend of athleticism and experience with the promise and high ceiling of the incoming class could make all the difference between having a chance to compete for a top 3 finish or slogging through the bottom half hoping to avoid Thursday (assuming the rest of the league, including us, stays intact).
